The state saw 42 COVID-19 deaths Thursday putting the cumulative death toll at 5,290. That also put the death rate from the virus at 1.03 percent the highest it has been since October 6th, which was 100 days ago. As for new cases the state’s Department of Health Services says 28 percent of the recent 9,699 tests or 2,712 tests came back positive for the coronavirus. Ninety-nine people were hospitalized with COVID with 998 total hospitalizations, the third time this week that number has been under 1,000. Of those hospitalized 229 patients are in ICU up by 5 from Wednesday.
Winnebago County had 82 new COVID-19 cases Thursday. Fond du Lac County had 50 new cases and will surpass 11,000 total cases this weekend. Dodge County reported 58 new cases. Green Lake and Marquette counties each had 1 new case. Waupaca County recorded 16 new cases and 1 new death and the Waushara County Health Department reported 6 new cases of COVID yesterday.
