Two Dead In Omro House Fire
Two people and a dog were found dead inside a home following a Christmas Day fire in Omro. Police say a patrol officer reported flames and smoke coming from the residence in the 200 block of McKinley Avenue around 4:30 Friday morning. Officers tried to contact the occupants of the home, but heavy fire and smoke conditions prevented them from doing so. After the fire was extinguished the victims were found inside the home. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Police and firefighters consider the fire suspicious.
Fatal Accident In Calumet County

A rollover accident on Highway 151 in Calumet County’s Town of Brothertown early Saturday morning claimed the life of the 24-year-old driver. Sheriff’s officials responded to the single vehicle accident at 3:20 am near Jefferson Road. The vehicle was heading south on Highway 151 when it left the roadway and rolled over multiple times. The driver died at the scene of the crash. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Town of Calumet Fire Department and First Responders and the Chilton Police Department.
Two Injured In Dodge County Crash
Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on State Highways 16 and 60 in Dodge County’s Town of Elba Saturday afternoon. Sheriff’s officials say a Ford SUV was heading east and a Chevy SUV west when the vehicles collided near the centerline. Both drivers were taken to Columbus Hospital, but the driver of the Ford SUV was later flown to UW Madison Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Chevy SUV suffered minor injuries. The accident was reported shortly before 2 pm Saturday.
Three Arrested In Two Separate Shootings In Oshkosh

Oshkosh Police are investigating two shootings that occurred in the city early Sunday morning. No one was injured in the two shootings that occurred in the 700 block of Division Street and 700 block of Central Street almost simultaneously. Officers located a vehicle suspected in the Division Street shooting and initiated a traffic stop that led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Oshkosh woman. A handgun was found in the vehicle. Two people were arrested in connection with the Central Street shooting after a search warrant was obtained for a residence on that block. A handgun was located during the search. The shootings were reported about 2:15 am.
Winnebago County Man Arrested For Fifth OWI
A Winnebago County man was arrested in Lincoln County Sunday evening for his 5th Operating While Intoxicated offense. A state trooper stopped 50-year-old Danny Schmidt of Winchester for driving a vehicle that displayed registration plates not associated with the vehicle. During the traffic stop on County Road Q the trooper could smell the odor of intoxicants coming from the passenger compartment and learned Schmidt had an alcohol level restriction, which he had exceeded. Schmidt was arrested for his 5th OWI, felony bail jumping, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended operator’s license.
Deer Left At Accident Scene Leads To Citations

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department is thanking those who provided information to them about the driver of a pickup truck that crashed into a telephone pole in the Pipe area on Sunday, November 30th. The driver fled the scene before deputies arrived, but left behind a nice-sized buck and doe. Through investigation it was learned the two deer were likely taken sometime that same day in Fond du Lac or Calumet County. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials learned who harvested the buck and several traffic citations were issued. A picture of the buck was posted on the Sheriff’s Facebook page in an effort to learn more about the person that harvested it.
Berg Leaving DFC
The Opioid and Other Drugs Initiative Coordinator for the Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County is leaving her post at the end of the month. Alex Berg will become the Community Health Specialist Senior at SSM Health for the Fond du Lac area. Berg was with Drug Free Communities for five years splitting her time with offices at the Ripon Medical Center two days a week and the Fond du Lac School District Administration Building three days a week. The DFC is investigating options to hire a new staff member in the New Year. Berg’s last day with the DFC is Wednesday.
