Ripon’s Shop With Emergency Personnel Evolves With The Times
15 December 2020 News
Ripon’s “Shop with Emergency Personnel” has had to evolve given the times to provide Christmas cheer to the less fortunate. Rather than the usual “Shop with a Cop” program the event involves not only the Police Department, but the Ripon Area Fire District and Guardian Ambulance as well. Police Chief Bill Wallner says they use to stage it at Kmart, but when that closed they did a Bowling and Pizza Party with the kids. Then this year along came the pandemic, which once again meant adapting the event. “We were able to get families that were involved and get their Christmas lists for them and then officers or staff were able to go out and do the shopping and we were able to wrap those gifts and presents here and then this week we be delivering those to the houses throughout town.” Wallner says it has been a tough year for a lot of people so anything they can do with the help of the community to make Christmas brighter for people is a great thing. He notes while they are delivering the gifts this week Santa may even tag along.
