Stolen Trailer Maybe In Ripon

Ripon Police would like to talk with anyone that may have purchased an aluminum trailer from someone from the Fox Valley or Green Bay area in the past two weeks. There’s a possibility it may have been stolen. Police say the buyer isn’t in trouble, but they were contacted by another law enforcement agency that believes it was sold to someone in the Ripon area that had no idea it was stolen. The Ripon Police Department phone number is 920-748-2888.  A picture of the trailer can be seen at the Ripon Police Department Facebook page.

The 33-year-old Beaver Dam man suspected of murdering his ex-wife pled guilty Tuesday to a first degree intentional homicide charge in Dodge County court. Town of Ripon Police are passing along tips to residents about how to keep the packages they are expecting to have delivered for Christmas safe from Porch Pirates. Due to the pandemic more people are shopping online, which means an increase in deliveries. Things they recommend include having the package held at your local carrier facility for pickup, take advantage of ship to store for curbside pickup, request your deliveries have a confirmation delivered signature, direct your carrier to place the packages in an area out of plain view, deliver packages to your work, and schedule delivery for when you will be home.  Also you could have packages delivered to a neighbor who will be at home and monitor your porch via a video doorbell system. Police also urge you to lock your doors to prevent a further opportunity for thieves.

Ripon Schools Calendar Approved For 2021-22 School Year

The Ripon Area School District Board of Education Monday night unanimously approved the 2021-22 school calendar.  The calendar has new features to it which includes replacing Wednesday weekly Late Start Professional Development time with Early Release time two Fridays per month. Superintendent Mary Whitrock says over the past two months, staff worked to refine the calendar and surveyed both parents and staff regarding the calendar.  Staff and parents preferred replacing late starts with two early releases each month on Fridays or the day before breaks. The calendar meets the state DPI’s instructional minutes requirements for both elementary and middle school and again includes two orientation days at the start of the school year.

Oshkosh Tax Bills Sent Out

The City of Oshkosh mailed out real estate and property tax bills at the beginning of the week. Due to the COVID-19 public health pandemic, the city encourages residents to mail in their tax payments or use the drop box outside the main doors of City Hall. Residents are also encouraged to use the online payment option at OshkoshBillPay.com. Payments can be made in person at City Hall if necessary. In addition, the City is designating Community First Credit Union as an authorized payment location for in person payments. In order to be credited with a 2020 tax payment, the payment must be received, paid in person at any location, or placed in the drop box located by the main entrance of City Hall by December 31st.

Instilling Confidence In The COVID Vaccine

With the first vaccine for COVID-19 now being distributed it’s a matter of building confidence in it to make more people want to get vaccinated when it becomes more widely available. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says some well know people have volunteered to get the shots. “We’ve got three former Presidents that have said they would do it on air to show confidence in the system and the science behind it. We got Dr. Fauci who says he will do it on air, same thing it is a matter of instilling confidence in us.” He says while there was a race to the finish line to get the first vaccine on the market it does not mean there was a compromise in developing it. He says the technology used has been available for almost 20 years.

Something Special From Right Down The Road

Alice in Dairyland Julia Nunes says the great thing about the Something Special from Wisconsin program is there are a lot of producers who probably live right down the road from you. She says for example there is Dancing Bear Honey, which has been made in the Waupaca area since 1976. “Dancing Bear Honey in Waupaca has pure and raw unfiltered honey straight from their bees to your table and they offer raw honey and comb honey and some say that is the best way to try it.” Another Something from Wisconsin product being highlighted is the cheese from Widmer’s Cheese Cellars made in Theresa since 1922. They offer multiple gift boxes packed with Wisconsin cheese and sausage. You can find out more about Something Special from Wisconsin at the Alice in Diaryland.com website.
