Reckless Homicide Suspect Asks For New Judge
A 30-year-old Fond du Lac man facing first degree reckless homicide and felony bail jumping charges for the death of a young girl has asked for a substitution of judge. Fond du Lac County Judge Peter Grimm has been presiding over the case for Thomas Abitz Jr. Charges against Abitz stem from the June 2017 death of the girl. Abitz is serving a 13 year sentence for causing a traumatic brain injury to the two-year-old girl in March of 2011. She lived with the consequences of that injury until she died from what the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner said was pneumonia from chronic health problems created by the head injury. Abitz is serving his sentence at Redgranite Correctional Institution.

Border Concerns
Congressman Glenn Grothman is concerned that we will be seeing more illegal immigrants entering the country with Joe Biden becoming President. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says in talking with a Homeland Security official they are already seeing it happen. “So they are already seeing a lot more people trying to get into the country and I think as we get closer and closer to Inauguration Day I think you are going to see more people flooding into the country.” Grothman says some people feel the number of illegal immigrants entering the country could reach 200,000 to 300,000 a month. He points out with Biden promising free health care for illegal immigrants it could make the problem worse. He says Congress needs to act to make it more difficult to get on welfare programs.
FDL County Highway Trucks Versatile
The same Fond du Lac County Highway trucks you see out working road construction in the summer are fitted with plows and salt spreaders for snow removal in the winter. County Highway Commissioner Tom Janke says they make the most of their fleet of 37 trucks, 34 of which are used for snow removal in the winter. “So the same equipment that you see maybe shouldering or hauling materials either away or to job sites or hauling asphalt to our paver is generally the same truck that gets fitted with a plow, a wing, maybe even a double-wing, left or right wing or both I should say.” The Fond du Lac County Highway Commission maintains 779 lane miles of county highways and 608 lane miles of state highways in the county.
