Sports for December 3rd

The Packers were back on the practice field on Wednesday as they prepare for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Lambeau Field.  Green Bay (8-3)dominated the Bears (5-6)Sunday night at home 41-25 as Aaron Rodgers threw touchdown passes to four different receivers and the Packers defense held the Bears offense in check.  The Eagles (3-7-1) come into the game following a 23-17 home loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.

The Packers have officially signed receiver Tavon Austin and released receiver Darrius Shepherd to make room for the veteran.Austin was picked 8th overall by the Rams in the 2013 NFL Draft. The speedy veteran has racked up 5,263 all-purpose yards and 28 touchdowns over seven NFL seasons spending time with the Rams and Cowboys. In fact, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was the offensive coordinator in Los Angeles in Austin’s final season. Austin added he’s happy he’s in Green Bay with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and is ready to earn his trust and add to the team’s offensive arsenal.

Meanwhile, the Packers have announced they will be hosting about 500 people for the second week in a row during this weekend’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The team says the people who attend the game will again be a small group of employees and their household family members, and will continue to evaluate COVIED-19 protocols that have been implemented. Those protocols include concession stand and restroom use, signage effectiveness and positioning, and distancing of seating pods throughout the stadium’s bowl. In addition, all of the guests at Sunday’s game will use mobile tickets as the method of entry, and not tailgate in the Lambeau Field parking lots.  Last Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears was the first time there were any fans allowed inside Lambeau Field this season.

If ticketed fans will be able to attend games later this season, season ticket holders who opted in for the chance to buy tickets will receive instructions about the ticket-purchasing process at a later date.

On another note, both Aaron Rodgers (37) and running back Aaron Jones (26) celebrated birthdays on Wednesday.

Week 12 of the NFL season finally came to a close Wednesday afternoon in Pittsburgh, as the Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens 19-14 in a defensive battle. The Steelers, now 11-0, remain the only undefeated team in the league while the COVID-ravaged Ravens drop to 6-5.  Though the Ravens were missing a lot talent due to the coronavirus, the Steelers offense produced a season-low in points scored. Ben Roethlisberger and the offense mustered just one touchdown and 334 yards. Dropped passes were a huge problem. They also had a pair of turnovers and just never got into an offensive rhythm .  But for much of the contest, the Steelers’ impactful defense dominated the Ravens’ short-handed offense until a late Trace McSorley 70-yard touchdown pass suddenly sprung Baltimore back into the game.  Raven’ quarterback Robert Griffith III managed just 33 yard passing and threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Joe Haden.  Hedfid lead the team in rushing with  68 yards on seven attempts before leaving late in the game with a leg injury.  Pittsburgh linebacker Bud Dupree suffered an apparent ACL injury and is likely lost for the season..

The World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired reliever Corey Knebel from the Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named or cash. Knebel was an All-Star in 2017 and a key part of the Brewers’ bullpen during their run to the 2018 NL Championship Series. The right-hander missed the 2019 season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow and struggled after returning last season.
