Sports for November 19th
Former Oshkosh North basketball star Tyrese Haliburton has been drafted by the Sacramento Kings in the 2020 NBA draft. Haliburton was the 12th overall pick in the first round Wednesday night. The point guard was projected to be the No. 6 pick and go to the Atlanta Hawks, according to a mock draft published on NBA.com. The Iowa State standout opted to skip his final two years of college and enter the draft. Haliburton played 22 games last season and averaged 15.2 points, 6.5 assists and 5.9 rebounds per game. His 2019-20 season was cut short after he took a fall in a February game against Kansas State and broke his wrist. The 6-foot-5 guard excels on both ends of the floor. Haliburton led the Oshkosh North Spartans to their first Division 1 State Championship in 2018 and was the 2017-18 Gatorade Player of the Year in Wisconsin boys basketball.
The Bucks drafted RJ Hampton, reportedly traded to the Nuggets, after first being dealt to the Pelicans. In the second round with the 45th pick, Milwaukee picked Jordan Nwora, a junior out of Louisville.
Georgia’s Anthony Edwards was the number one over pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Lourdes Academy will try to end its season on a perfect note as they play Randolph in Level 2 of the state football playoffs tonight. The school learned Wednesday that its scheduled opponent, Reedsville, had to cancel the game with the Knights due to COVID-19 reasons. So now the Knights will host conference rival Randolph (7-2), a team it beat 17-14 earlier in the season. If Lourdes beats Randolph tonight it would be a landmark win for the program. The Knights would finish the season at 9-0 and that would mark the first time in program history a team has gone undefeated.
The Packers (7-2) returned to the practice field on Wednesday, getting ready for their matchup Sunday at Indianapolis against the Colts (6-3). Green Bay leads the NFC North while Indianapolis is tied for first in the AFC South with Tennessee. The Packers injury report Wednesday listed receiver Davante Adams as limited by the ankle injury he suffered during the Jaguars game, and fellow receiver Allen Lazard was still limited despite being activated off injured reserve on Tuesday. The Packers are going to need their wide outs since Indianapolis has a very good pass defense. The Colts ranks 2nd against the pass, 3rd against the runs and 4th in points allowed – 19.7 ppg, or about 11 points per game less than Packers 3rd-ranked scoring offense. Players who did not practice Wednesday were DL Montravius Adams (toe), RB Tyler Ervin (wrist/robs) and WR Equanimeous Brown (knee). Outside observers will use Sunday’s game as a measuring stick for a Packers team that has faced just one top-5 defense this season, scoring just 10 points in a blowout loss at Tampa Bay.
Meanwhile, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he “wasn’t real, real happy” about the negotiations leading to the most recent NFL labor agreement as he discussed why he’s no longer a team player representative. The NFL Players Association sent out a tweet last week noting that kicker Mason Crosby was the Packers’ new player representative with linebacker Oren Burks, guard Lucas Patrick and cornerback Jaire Alexander as alternates.
In Thursday Night Football, Arizona plays at Seattle in an NFC West battle. Both teams are 6-3 along with the Los Angeles Rams in the division. Seattle lost at Arizona 37-34 in week-seven.
