Wisconsin set a new daily record for the number of new COVID-19 cases Wednesday with 7,989 or 212 more cases than the previous record. That was a positivity rate of nearly 40 percent of the 20,129 test results that came back. Fifty-two more deaths were also reported bringing the death toll since the pandemic began in the state to 2,793 persons. Hospitalizations also remained high with 283 new patients and 2,217 current hospitalizations with 428 of those patients in intensive care units. Governor Tony Evers also announced Wednesday he is extending the mask mandate through the rest of the year. It was due to expire this Saturday.

Winnebago County reported 128 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and 5 more deaths due to the disease. That puts its total cases at 12,098 and the number of deaths at 98 people. Fond du Lac County had 103 more COVID cases yesterday and 1 additional death to push its total cases to 7,619 with 34 deaths. Dodge County is nearing 7,000 cases with 131 new cases giving it 6,909 with 54 deaths. Sixteen new cases were reported in Green Lake County, which has 1,079 total cases with 5 deaths. Marquette County had 28 new cases to give it 963 totals cases with 7 deaths. Twenty-eight new cases and 5 more deaths were recorded in Waupaca County, which has 3,510 total cases with 107 deaths. The Waushara County Health Department reported 19 new COVID cases and now has 1,636 total cases with 7 deaths since the outbreak began.
