One Person Killed In Fiery Crash On Interstate 41 In Winnebago County

Update:
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department says the driver who died in a fiery crash on Interstate 41 just south of State Highway 26 Tuesday night was driving the wrong way. After driving the wrong way down the Highway 26 ramp a vehicle entered the I-41 northbound lanes driving south and hit a semi tractor-trailer nearly head on. The car caught fire and the driver died at the scene. The truck driver wasn’t injured. There was a secondary crash when a passenger car hit the debris field from the first accident. That driver wasn’t injured. The crash closed down the northbound lanes of I-41 for about 8 hours during the crash investigation and cleanup effort. The accident was reported at 9:15 pm.

One person was killed in a fiery crash on I-41 northbound in Winnebago County Tuesday night. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Jeff Meyer says it was a three-vehicle accident just south of Highway 26 in the Town of Nekimi. As deputies were responding they got a report that one of the vehicles was on fire and was fully engulfed. The driver of that vehicle died at the scene. The two other drivers involved in the crash were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries. The northbound lanes of I-41 were shut down at Fond du Lac County Highway N during the investigation and for cleanup. The accident was reported to the Sheriff’s Department at 9:16 pm.
