The Packers continue to get ready for the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lambeau Field on Sunday. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers should have some good opportunities through the air against the Jaguars, who have the 5th worst overall passing defense in the league. So far this season the 12-year pro has thrown 24 touchdown passes and just two interceptions and has a passer rating rating of 117.5. Rodgers’ already has had four-four touchdown games and two three-touchdown game. He’s been given good protection and has only been sacked once in the three games that the offensive line was without left tackle David Bakhtiari, who will return to the starting lineup Sunday. Defensively, Green Bay ranks 11th in the league and is on pace for the unit’s best finish since the team’s Super Bowl season 10 years ago, despite just six takeaways, 3rd-worst in the NFL, and coming a year after Green Bay was 3rd-best in that department. The defense has 18 sacks which is just two below the unit at this time last year, which ranks 18th in the league. In the injury department the Packers had three players who didn’t practice Thursday. They were CB Jaire Alexander (concussion/hand), tight end Mercedes Lewis (knee) and WR Darius Shepherd (shoulder). The pregame starts at 10:00 with the kickoff at noon on 102.3, The Bug.
In Thursday Night Football the Indianapolis Colts (6-3) took over first place in the AFC South with a 34-17 road win over the Tennessee Titans (6-3). Colts quarterback Philip Rivers bounced back after a poor showing by the offense in a loss to the Ravens the week before. He completed 29 of 39 passes for 308 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Tennessee led at the half 17-13 but the Colts defense stiffened and blanked the Titans offense and quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the second half. Tannehill was just 15 of 27 for 147 yards and one touchdown. Running back Derrick Henry did gain 103 yards on 18 carries, but the Colts defense held the Titans in check in the second half.
Paul Casey is leading after Thursday’s first round of The Masters at Augusta National Golf Course. He shot an opening round 65, seven shots under par and leads Webb Simpson, Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele by two strokes. Defending champ Tiger Woods was one of eight players at four-under.
In Level 1 of the high school football playoffs tonight, Wautoma plays at Watertown Luther Prep. The game can be heard on 102.3, The Bug, with the pregame starting at 5:45 and the kickoff at 7:00.
