Fire Shuts Down Part Of Interstate 41 In Winnebago County
A driver suffering from a medical issue drove off I-41 causing a fire that shut down part of the interstate in Winnebago County Wednesday morning. The Sheriff’s Office says the driver had a medical issue and the car went into a ditch and started the grasses around it on fire. The state DOT reported the fire just before 10 am near County Highway GG south of Neenah. Northbound traffic was blocked. It was more than an hour before it could be fully reopened. The driver was taken to a hospital.
FDL County Board Will Hold Public Hearing Tonight On Proposed County Budget
The Fond du Lac County Board will hold a special meeting tonight in Fond du Lac the main purpose being a public hearing for the proposed 2021 County Budget. The meeting starts at 6 pm in the legislative chambers of the City-County Government Center with the public hearing scheduled for 6:30 pm. The proposed budget includes a $47.6 million tax levy, but the tax rate will fall by about 7 cents to $5.81. The County Board will approve the budget at their meeting next Tuesday. In other business the Natural Beauty Council will give out their annual beautification awards.
Congressman Grothman Urges People To Be Careful During Large Family Gatherings
Congressman Glenn Grothman says he understands why health experts are expecting another surge in COVID-19 cases during the holidays. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah notes people are good about using masks and social distancing when they are out in public for the most part, but they let their guard down around family and trusted friends. “And I was talking to the administrator of a hospital in my district and he said so many people who they have get it at family gatherings, so I can see why because people let their guard down.” Grothman says because of all the political appearances he attended prior to the election he has been tested for COVID-19 five times, but tested negative in each case.
Scary Survey
The Director of Small Business and Entrepreneurship for Envision Greater Fond du Lac the results of survey they will be using during Startup Fond du Lac week show businesses are having a tough time during the pandemic. Sarah Spang says when they first did the survey during the spring businesses were optimistic, but the longer the battle with COVID-19 goes on the more discouraging it is for those business owners. “It was pretty much at zero people were like really optimistic and now I think it is more like 30 percent or so are saying you know they are not sure how much longer they are going to make it and that’s, that’s really scary you know that is a large chunk of a community.” She tells people to look at grant opportunities, work with their banks if you have loans and do whatever you can. She says we are in this altogether and we have to support each other to get through it. Startup Fond du Lac Week is November 11th through the 18th.
Dallman Grateful For Support In Election Victory
State Assemblyman-elect Alex Dallman says he will be ready to hit the ground running when he gets to the State Capitol to represent the 41st State Assembly District. “We’re going to start getting things together here in the next couple of weeks and the next couple of months and then kick off come the first Tuesday in January.” The former Green Lake County Republican Party chairman says he is grateful for the support he received from voters during Tuesday’s election. Dallman defeated Democrat Nate Zimdars and Independent Jean Bartz to win the seat currently held by Joan Ballweg who won the 14th State Senate race on Tuesday.
Heavy Turnout For Election In Ripon
In Ripon 3,934 voters or 89 percent of the registered voters in the city voted in Tuesday’s election. They preferred President Trump over former Vice President Biden by about 200 votes and Congressman Glenn Grothman over challenger Jessica King by over 300 votes. Ripon voters also liked Joan Ballweg in the State Senate race giving her a 732 vote victory over Joni Anderson in the city and gave Alex Dallman a 200 vote victory over nearest challenger Nate Zimdars in the State Assembly race. Ripon voters also passed the Ripon Schools referendum by 1,212 votes.
Food Drive In Ripon Saturday
The Boy Scouts and Cub Scout troops in Ripon will continue a fall tradition albeit it slightly different with the pandemic. The Scouting for Food Drive will be held this Saturday with the local troops supporting the Food Pantry in Ripon. It will be conducted in the parking lot at Webster’s Marketplace in Ripon from 9 am to 1 pm. Scout Master Mike Bair says they are looking for donations of non-perishable food. Drive through lanes will be sent up and tents in case of inclement weather. He says people wearing masks and gloves will be picking up the food from vehicles.
RMC Auxiliary Lights Of Love Program
The Ripon Medical Center Auxiliary, Inc is sponsoring its 33rd annual “Lights of Love” program, a living memorial or tribute to friends, relatives or dedicated citizens of the community. Proceeds from this year’s project will be used to fund three $1,000 scholarships for high school seniors planning to pursue a career in health care. Lights of Love provides the opportunity for individuals, groups or businesses to purchase lights in honor or memory of loved ones for a gift of $5 or more. Due to COVID-19, the tree lighting event will not be held this year. However, the tree will be lit on Thursday, December 10th. Lights of Love brochures, including donation forms, are available by visiting the Agnesian website.
