(Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s photo)
A 19-year-old Ripon man is facing a felony possession charge after a traffic stop in which three-quarters of a pound of marijuana was found in his vehicle. According to the criminal complaint a Ripon Police officer stopped Noah Lindsley last Saturday for having no front license plate, tinted windows, and a tinted license plate cover on the back that made it appear there was no license. Based on the odor of marijuana the officer said he was going to search the car and asked Lindsley if he had any marijuana in it. Lindsley said he had three-quarters of a pound of pot in the car and it was found in a grocery store bag behind the back seat on the floor. He said he had bought the pot for $1,000 shortly before he was stopped and intended to sell it. Lindsley also allegedly volunteered he makes about $5,000 a month selling marijuana. Lindsley was released on a $2,500 signature bond and has a preliminary hearing on January 7th.
Governor Evers Issues A Plea
Governor Tony Evers put out a plea Tuesday asking Wisconsin residents to voluntarily stay at home and limit their interactions as the state reached new daily records for the number of coronavirus cases and deaths from the coronavirus. The state’s Department of Health Services reported 5,262 new cases and 64 deaths. While speaking to reporters during a teleconference Governor Evers said he would like people to limit their interactions to their immediate family.
Contact Tracing Protocols Changed
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller took to Facebook Live late Tuesday morning to talk about the health alert the county health department recently issued. She says in light of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases they had to change their protocols for contact tracing prioritizing age groups at higher risks. Mueller noted since August they’ve gone from averaging 15 new cases a day to 110 cases a day. She says they recognize the difficulty and challenges the pandemic has caused and that it is affecting our daily lives. “We need everyone to come together and take action to stop the spread of COVID-19. It depends on all of us doing our part to help protect the community and keep our businesses, schools and economy open and keep our health care infrastructure intact.” She urges people to help stop the surge by wearing a face mask, keep social circles small, avoid large gatherings, wash your hands often, practice social distancing, and stay home if you are sick.
Preliminary Ripon City Budget Approved
The Ripon Common Council approved the preliminary 2021 Budget for the city this week. The Council also approved some amendments that will allow the city to use some of the $100,000 it generates annually in recycling fees to pay for capital costs. For 2021 $22,500 of that will be used to pay a portion of the $35,000 needed to buy a new police squad car. That same amount of money that would have been used from the general fund for the squad car will instead be used for other capital purchases such as 10 external communication devices for the Fire Department, new phone hardware for the police department, a new computer for the Senior Center, new laptop for the library, and costs associated with large item drop off options in the public works department. The remainder of the recycling money will go into an “Equipment Replacement Fund.” The public hearing on the budget will be at 6:30 pm on November 10th.
