Tom Brady outplayed Aaron Rodgers in a rare meeting between the Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers erased an early double-digit deficit to rout the previously unbeaten Green Bay Packers 38-10. Brady threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns, including one to former Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski, in the win. Gronkowski, a four-time All-Pro tight end, returned to the NFL after sitting out the 2019 season but got off to a slow start in his new home, catching just 12 passes over his first five games.
He caught five passes for a team-high 78 yards and a touchdown against the Packers. It was his first touchdown with Tampa Bay. Brady also threw a 7-yard TD pass to rookie Tyler Johnson and Ronald Jones had a pair of rushing TDs for Tampa Bay, which got an even more impressive performance from its defense. Brady was 17 of 27 for 166 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions and Jones rushed for 113 yards. It was the 43-year-old Brady’s first signature victory since signing with the Bucs (4-2) after a historic 20-year run with the New England Patriots, which included nine NFL title game appearances and six championships.
Rodgers threw two interceptions — Green Bay’s first turnovers of the season — within a three-pass span of the second quarter to turn a 10-0 Packers lead into a 14-10 deficit. Cornerback Jamel Dean broke on Rodgers’ sideline throw intended for Davante Adams and returned the pick 32 yards to get the Bucs rolling. Safety Mike Edwards returned a second interception on a throw also intended for Adams 38 yards to the Green Bay 2 to set up Jones’ rushing TD on the next play.
Rodgers finished 16 of 35 for 160 yards and no touchdowns after completing 70.5 percent of his passes and throwing for 13 TDs and no interceptions in Green Bay’s first four games. Rodgers was intercepted twice and had one of the picks returned for Tampa Bay’s first touchdown. The Packers were previously undefeated, and are now 4-1. They jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before Tampa Bay reeled off 38 straight points.
Next week, the Packers travel to Houston to take on the Texans. That game is scheduled for noon. The NFL’s only remaining unbeaten teams are the Tennessee Titans, Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks.
Packers: LT David Bakhtiari left in the third quarter with a chest injury, leaving Green Bay to play the remainder of the game without its best offensive lineman. S Darnell Savage (quad) missed a portion of the second half… CB Kevin King (quadriceps) and RB Tyler Ervin (wrist) were inactive.
Elsewhere in the NFC North on Sunday the Falcons pounded the Vikings on the road 40-23. It was Atlanta’s first win of the season while Minnesota drops to 1-5. Detroit won at Jacksonville 34-16 to improve to 2-3 while the Bears won at Carolina 23-16 to up their record to 5-1.

In the NLCS Cody Bellinger’s seventh inning home run off Chris Martin decided a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves in a wild seventh and deciding game to send the Dodgers into the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Los Angeles trailed two games to nothing and three games to one before completing their comeback with three straight wins. Kike Hernandez also homered to tie the game and the Dodges bullpen shut down the Braves over the final five innings, the last three of which were pitched by Julio Urías (2-0) four days after he threw 101 pitches. He retired all nine batters he faced as Roberts stuck with him instead of bringing in Kenley Jansen, who had pitched in the previous two wins. The Braves led 2-0 after scoring single runs in the first and second innings before the Dodgers tied the game with two runs in the third. Atlanta regained the lead at 3-2 with a run in the fourth before the Dodgers tied it in the sixth and then went ahead in the seventh on Bellinger’s homer. The Braves managed just three hits while Los Angeles had ten. Chris Martin (0-1) took the loss in relief.
