In the NLCS Thursday Atlanta pounded Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers 10-2 in Los Angeles to take a 3-1 lead in their best of seven game series. Marcell Ozuna went 4-5, hammering two homers and driving in four runs to lead the Braves. Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson drove in two runs each for Atlanta while Bryse Wilson gave up one run on hit over six innings while striking out five and walking one to get his first win of the postseason. Kershaw went five innings, giving up four runs, all earned, on seven hits while striking out five and walking one. He drops to 0-1 in the playoffs. Brusdar Graterol lasted just a third of an inning in the sixth, giving up three runs on four hits as the Braves erupted for six runs. The teams meet again tonight in Atlanta as Dustin May (1-0) goes to the mound for Los Angeles while the Braves have not yet announced a starting pitcher.
In the ALCS Carlos Correa crushed a fastball from Rays reliever Nick Anderson and sailed it 416 feet over the center-field wall at Petco Park in San Diego for a walk-off homer to send the never-say-die Astros to a dramatic 4-3 win in what has suddenly become a tight American League Championship Series. The Rays lead the best-of-seven series, 3-2, heading into Friday’s Game 6. Before the at-bat Correa told manager Dusty Baker he was going to hit a walk-off homer. With George Springer hitting a homer on the first pitch of the game for Houston it’s the first time in playoff history one team had a leadoff homer and walk-off homer in the same game. Designated hitter Michael Brantley drove in the other two runs for the Astros. Houston led 3-2 until Tampa Bay tied it in the eighth. Ryan Pressly (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 inning in relief to pick up the win. The Rays hit three solo homers as Brandon Lowe connected in the third, Randy Arosarena in the fifth and Ji-Man Choi in the eighth. Nick Anderson (01) took the loss. Game six is later today in Tampa Bay as Framber Valdez (2-1) goes for the Astros against the Rays Blake Snell who’s also 2-1 in the postseason.
The Packers Aaron Rodgers continues to get ready for Sunday’s touted matchup in Tampa Bay against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. Green Bay is hoping to have several injured key players ready including wide receiver Davante Adams who has missed two-and-a-half games with a hamstring injury. They also hope to have another receiver Equanemous St. Brown and rookie linebacker Kamal Martin as both have practiced this week. Both were placed on injured reserve with knee injuries and now that they’re practicing, the Packers have three weeks to activate them. If not, they will have to be placed on season-ending IR. It’s possible both could be ready to go against the Bucs. On Thursday Montravius Adams (neck) did not participate along with CB Kevin King (quad) injury and tight end Mercedes Lewis (Knee). Sunday’s pregame starts at 1:00 with the kickoff at 3:25 and can be heard on FM102.3, The Bug.
In high school football tonight the Wautoma Hornets host Adams-Friendship with the pregame beginning at 6:45 and the kickoff at 7:00 on 102.3, The Bug.
