In Tuesday night football two unbeaten teams took to the field and the Tennessee Titans dominated in the second half at home over the Buffalo Bills to win 42-16. After not playing in week four because of Covid-19 testing results, the Titans looked sharp both offensively and defensively against the Bills. Ryan Tannehill was efficient completing 21 of 28 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns, two to Jonnu Smith and the other to A.J. Brown, who led Bills receivers with seven catches good for 82 yards. Derrick Henry rushed for 57 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns and Tannehill scored the other on a 10-yard scramble near the end of the first half to give Tennessee a 21-10 lead at the intermission. The Bills increased the lead to 28 to 10 in the third quarter and led 28-16 at the end of three. Tennessee added two fourth-quarter touchdowns to close out the scoring. Buffalo’s Josh Allen went to the air 41 times, completing 26 and two touchdowns but he was also picked off twice by the Titans Malcolm Butler. Tennessee improves to 4-0 while the Bills drop to 4-1.
In other NFL news, five games into the 2020 season, the New York Jets have decided to release star running back Le’Veon Bell. General manager Joe Douglas announced the end to Bell’s tumultuous Jets tenure Tuesday night.
“The Jets organization appreciates Le’Veon’s efforts during his time here and we know he worked hard to make significant contributions to this team,” Douglas said in the statement. “We believe this decision is in the best interests of both parties and wish him future success.”
Douglas also cited that the team came to the decision after speaking with Bell and his agent and exploring trade options over the past couple of days. From nearly the onset, Bell’s time with the club was filled with speed bumps. The 28-year-old recently returned from a hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve for three weeks. His hamstring issues sparked a much-publicized dispute with coach Adam Gase in late August.
The Packers return to the practice field today in preparation for Sunday’s road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady. Green Bay (4-0) is coming off its bye week. Tampa Bay (3-2) is coming off a road loss last Thursday night at Chicago against the Bears.
In other news, the Packers placed TE Josiah Deguara (duh-gwa-rah) on injured reserve,
placed C Jake Hanson on injured reserve-practice squad and signed WR Kalija (kuh-lie-juh)Lipscomb to the practice squad. The transactions were announced Tuesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst. Lipscomb (6-0, 205) is a rookie out of Vanderbilt that was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted rookie free agent this past April and spent the first three weeks of the season on the Chiefs’ practice squad. He appeared in 48 games with 25 starts in college, finishing No. 8 in school history with 2,356 career receiving yards, No. 5 with 198 receptions and No. 2 with 22 TD catches. Lipscomb will wear No. 18 for the Packers.
In the American League Championship Series Tuesday the Tampa Bay Rays took a commanding three games to nothing lead over the Houston Rockets with a 5-2 win at Houston. The teams meet again tonight.
In the NLCS the Braves edged the Dodgers 8-7 in Los Angeles to lead two games to nothing in their series. Game three is later today.
