The Green Bay Packers have announced there will be no fans in the stands at Lambeau Field for an indefinite amount of time.  According to the team, the organization has put a hold on hosting fans due to the increase of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the Green Bay area, as well as other parts of the state. Team officials say in order to host fans, the area will need to see an improvement in the rate of hospitalizations, as well as the community infection rate and the positivity rate. The team says they’ll continue to work with area medical and public health officials regarding the possibility of hosting fans later this season.  Team officials had announced a decision would be made about future games following the first two home matches.

Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said Tuesday the team is very concerned with the rate of infection in the area, saying it is trending in the wrong direction in terms of hospitalization and positive cases.

“We’d all like to resume safely attending games at Lambeau Field. We know enjoying gameday is an integral part of our community and recognize how important it is to our area. However, the health and safety of our players, staff and community is our priority. We all need to take the pandemic seriously and do our part to reduce the spread of the virus, which should lead to significant improvement in the rates of infection and hospitalizations. At that point we’ll be able to experience games in person,” said Murphy. “We urge everyone to wear masks, socially distance and practice proper hand hygiene. When watching our games, please limit the people with whom you cheer to your small circle of family or close friends.”

The Packers did not need their top receiver to beat the Falcons, 30-16, and improve to 4-0. The running backs and tight ends took care of business in the pass-catching game accounting for 223 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Robert Tonyan had a breakout game. The third-year tight end caught six passes including three touchdowns and 98 yards.

“I am constantly thinking about making plays, whether I am at home on my couch sitting, I am thinking about making plays,” Tonyan said. “Just playing the games over and over in my head. I think that the game has slowed down for me.”

However, quarterback Aaron Rodgers knew what Tonyan was capable of.

“As far as talent-wise, we always knew he was a talented guy and it was just a matter of time until a game like this happened,” Rodgers explained.

Tonyan aside, unfortunately for Josiah Deguara, there are reports he is done for the season with a torn ACL.  The players will be required to stay in Green Bay for the bye week due to COVID-19 concerns.

Meanwhile, the Packers released WR Reggie Begelton (BEG-ul-tin), released LB Curtis Bolton from reserve/physically unable to perform, and released WR Caleb Scott from the practice squad. The transactions were announced uesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan is out indefinitely after having surgery on his right foot. School officials announced Tuesday that Coan had undergone surgery earlier in the day. Coan injured the foot in practice Saturday. Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst said Monday it was a non-contact injury that occurred as the senior from Sayville, New York, was dropping back. Coan’s surgery means that redshirt freshman Grahaam Mertz is the most likely candidate to open the season as the 16th-ranked Badgers’ starting quarterback. Wisconsin begins the season Oct. 24 by hosting Illinois.
