The Brewers had their season end last night in Los Angeles as the Dodgers won 3-0 for a two-game sweep of their best of three-game series.  It was a pitching duel between Milwaukee’s Brandon Woodruff and Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw but the Brewers bats remained silent. For four scoreless innings, the Brewers right-hander matched Kershaw pitch for pitch. But in the fifth, things went sideways for the Brewers when AJ Pollock hit a ground ball to third baseman Urías, who stepped on the bag and threw across to first for what should have been an inning-ending double play.

It was one-hopped to Jedd Gyorko, who was signed by the Brewers to play third base but had been manning first as the team searched for offense. Gyorko had been proficient on scoops, but he missed this one, and the Dodgers capitalized with a run-scoring single for Austin Barnes followed by a two-run double for Mookie Betts. Just like that, the Dodgers punched their ticket to the NL Division Series and a matchup against the winner of the Cardinals-Padres series.

Kershaw sent the Brewers home in a cloud of strikeouts. After Woodruff struck out nine Dodgers in 4 2/3 innings, Kershaw set a career high with 13 K’s in eight scoreless innings. That, on top of the Brewers’ 15 strikeouts in Game 1.  The Brewers have lost four consecutive postseason games, a stretch that began with Kershaw closing out Game 7 of the 2018 NL Championship Series.

In other National League Playoff game Braves  shutout the Res 5-0 to win their series 2-0, the Padres beat the Cardinals 11-9 to tie their series at a game-each and Miami against the Cubs was postponed.

In the American League the Oakland A’s beat the White Sox 6-4 to win their series 2-1.

In the National League tonight Miami plays at Chicago, leading the Cubs 1-0 and St. Louis meets San Diego.

Davante Adams practiced in a limited capacity on Thursday after missing the Packers last game with the Saints because of a hamstring injury.  He almost played against New Orleans, but decided not to rush back.

“My mentality is to watch them do what they can do up until I’m ready to go, and when I am ready you already know what mentality I’m bringing to the game,” Packers wide receiver Davante Adams said.

“I’m going to make sure I’m 100% before I’m back out there, but the way they approach the game, it makes it easier for me to not feel rushed to come back.”

In the four games Adams missed last year and this past Sunday night, Green Bay hasn’t missed a beat offensively, as they’ve averaged nearly 33 and a half points per game.

“Obviously Davante is a big part of our offense,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said. “And a lot of times he’s the focal point of where we’re trying to go with the ball.”  In the four games Adams missed last year and this past Sunday night, Green Bay hasn’t missed a beat offensively, as they’ve averaged nearly 33 and a half points per game.

“Obviously Davante is a big part of our offense,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said. “And a lot of times he’s the focal point of where we’re trying to go with the ball.”  “We’ve got a lot of other guys that can make plays and that’s one thing that when he is out that has to happen. Fortunately for us, we’ve had guys step up when their number was called and made some big plays.”

“We’ve got a lot of guys who prepare like it’ll be their week. I feel like that’s the best thing: everybody’s always going full tilt, got their mind right, ready to go,” Adams said.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard is out indefinitely after undergoing core muscle surgery, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.  This comes on the heels of the second-year wideout having a career-best game against the New Orleans Saints, catching 6 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.  Recovery time from core muscle surgery is generally anywhere from three to eight weeks, depending on the severity of the injury.  The good news for the Packers receiver room is Davante Adams was back at practice on Thursday in a limited capacity, after missing last week’s game with a hamstring injury.

The Green Bay Packers have claimed WR Travis Fulgham off of waivers from the Detroit Lions.  Fulgham (6-2, 211) was originally drafted by the Lions in the sixth round (No. 184 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Old Dominion. He spent time on the Lions’ active roster and practice squad as a rookie, appearing in three games last season. Fulgham will wear No. 18 for the Packers.

In the NFL last night Denver won on the road, beating the New York Jets 37-28 for their first-ever win on Thursday Night Football.  Undrafted free agent Brett Rypien won in his first professional start as he completed 19 of 31 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns.  He was also picked off three times.  Melvin Gordon had a big game rushing 23 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns, including  a 43-yarder.  The Jets Sam Darnold had a tough night.  After scoring on a 46 yard run he was knocked out of the game in the first half but did return.  He completed 23 of 42 passes for 230  yards but no touchdowns.  The Broncos won their first game and are now 1-3 while while the Jets remain winless at 0-4.
