The Brewers announced Tuesday night that Left-hander Brent Suter will start for the Brewers in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Dodgers in Los Angeles tonigh. Right-hander Brandon Woodruff will start Game 2 of the best-of-three series, and a starter for a potential Game 3 depends on the health of veteran lefty Brett Anderson.
Suter will function as the “opener” in Game 1 as a result of Milwaukee’s starting rotation being thinned by injury. The pitcher who had been the presumed starter for any Brewers playoff opener this year, Corbin Burnes, suffered a left oblique injury in his final regular-season start, and is on the 10-day injured list. Anderson is also sidelined and questionable for the series due to a blister on the index finger of his pitching hand, and Woodruff just threw eight innings on a season-high 108 pitches on Saturday. Since it takes two wins to advance, the Brewers will hold him a day so he can pitch on full rest.
Right-hander Walker Buehler (1-0) and a 1-1 mark in the postseason starts for the Dodgers. First pitch is at 9:08 CDT and the game can be heard on AM1100/98.3FM, WISS.
Elsewhere in the National League Cincinnati plays at Atlanta, St. Louis travels to San Diego and Miami plays in Chicago.
The American League postseason got underway Tuesday with four games. Houston beat Minnesota 4-1, the White Sox downed the A’s 4-1, Tampa Bay beat Toronto 3-1 and the Yankees pounded the Indians 12-3. The teams meet again today in game two.
The NFL officially has its first COVID-19 outbreak. The Tennessee Titans are shutting down their entire facility until at least Saturday after three players and 5 personnel tested positive for Coronavirus. According to data released by the NFLPA, Green Bay has the highest infection rate among NFL cities.
“Our guys have done an outstanding job of being disciplined and taking care of themselves,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said. “Really it comes down to putting the team first. If one guy gets it, it can take down this whole operation.”
Packers center Corey Linsley said the numbers are concerning.
“All of us are a critical part of this business,” Linsley explained. The center added he is unsure what the rules will be for the bye week that will come after the Falcons game Monday night at Lambeau Field.
One aspect of the game the Packers defense will be working on after the win over the Saints is tackling. Sports Illustrated reported 10 missed tackles but Coach Matt LaFleur says there were 13, including five misses on Alvin Kamara’s long touchdown run. He said his players have to get better.
