When Princeton firefighters arrived at a house fire on West Main Street Saturday morning they were told one person was missing. Fire Chief Ernie Pulvermacher says they found the missing woman and she was pronounced dead by Berlin EMS. The fire started in the basement and most of the fire damage was to the basement and first floor of the two-story home. Heavy smoke damage also extended to the second floor as well. Two renters were displaced by the blaze and received help from the American Red Cross. The Princeton Fire Department got help at the scene from Grand River, Montello, Ripon and Green Lake fire departments, Berlin EMS, Princeton Police and the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department. Pulvermacher says there did not appear to be working smoke detectors in the house. He notes that with National Fire Prevention Week coming up next month it’s important to have working smoke detectors in your home because your life may depend on it. The time of the fire call was 7:09 am.
