Two Men Wanted For Questioning In Calumet County Shooting In Custody

Calumet County Sheriff’s officials say two men wanted for questioning in a shooting in the parking lot of the Blu Sapphires Cabaret in the Village of Harrison early Sunday morning have turned themselves in. A 40-year-old Kaukauna man was shot in the abdomen while sitting in his vehicle. He was taken to the ThedaCare Regional Medical Center and was expected to recover from his injuries. An altercation triggered the shooting. The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office posted a photo of the two men on its Facebook page which led to tips about them. The two have ties to the Fox Valley.

Retired Madison Police Chief Will Act As Consultant In Blake Shooting Investigation

Former Madison Police Chief Noble Wray will review the police-involved shooting of Jacob Blake for the state’s Department of Justice and Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Graveley. Wray, who is well-respected and is retired, will review the investigative file once it is completed and provide the district attorney an analysis of the August 23rd shooting in Kenosha. Following the review and analysis Graveley will meet with Wray to confer with him. Graveley will make his own decision about what charges, if any, are appropriate. State Attorney General Josh Kaul Monday announced Wray’s role as a consultant in the investigation.

ICloud Scam

The latest vehicle ripe for a scam is the ICloud. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says he received 35 calls from various phone numbers from the California 408 area code in a 24-hour period. Someone he knows got 67 similar calls. Every call was the same and started with a message saying that his ICloud account had been compromised. When he told the caller he didn’t have an ICloud account he was told someone had opened a fraudulent account using his android information. They wanted him to download an app called Team Viewer so they could access his device remotely to steal his information. He recommends hanging up if you get a similar call because it is a scam.

Oshkosh North And West High Schools Go To Virtual Learning

Due to the extensive community spread of COVID-19 within the Oshkosh Area School District boundaries and an increasing number of high school students and staff required to quarantine, Oshkosh North High School and Oshkosh West High School will be going to virtual learning this Wednesday. The decision was based on data and with the understanding that the high schools are trending upward with new cases of illnesses and quarantines. The district expects to remain in virtual learning for Oshkosh North and Oshkosh West high schools for at least two weeks.

COVID Study Perplexing

A recent study found younger children can have COVID-19 being asymptomatic and take the virus home with them. Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says the amazing thing is we don’t know if they have the virus because they don’t show the symptoms and nobody wants to test really young children. “What we know is little children don’t show symptoms. What we don’t know is whether they have it because no one is randomly testing two-year-olds. I mean you wouldn’t be running a nasal swab up a two-year-olds’ nose for fun. So if they don’t have symptoms why would anybody have them tested.” He says the other thing is health care officials don’t usually see family members of those kids come in with COVID. The guess is the kids have had some version of COVID all along and have virtually immunized their family members to some extent.

Waushara Chamber Director Leaving

The Waushara Area Chamber of Commerce will be losing their executive director within the next few months. Executive Director Chelsie Bohler sent out an email to Chamber members Saturday saying she had taken another position and would be leaving the Chamber. Bohler has been with the Waushara Area Chamber of Commerce for six and a half years. Bohler says operations will continue as normal during the transition and Chamber members should still send information about their upcoming events to her. She thanked members for their support, friendship, and the volunteering they’ve done over the years.

Presidential Candidate Visits

Fond du Lac County Republican Party Chairman Rohn Bishop feels the area will get more visits from Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates in the weeks leading up to the November 3rd election. He says nothing is official, but Wisconsin is considered a battleground state and Democrats are still regretting Hillary Clinton didn’t make a visit to the state four years ago, which they believe might have made a difference. “I think you’re going to see them targeting Fond du Lac County down to the Illinois state line and over to Lake Michigan. It’s an area where we have to shore it up a little bit. I know the Vice President has already been to Ripon. I wouldn’t be shocked if Ripon gets a second visit from a top-tier candidate.” He says as party chairman he’s been told to prepare for a likely visit to the Fond du Lac County area.
