Oshkosh Man Facing Charges For Allegedly Stealing From Nursing Home Resident

The state’s Revenue Department has released more details about the 58-year-old Oshkosh man charged with theft and fraud for allegedly stealing over $410,000 from a 92-year-old nursing home resident. According to the criminal complaint Terry Lynn Culver had power of attorney for the victim who was forced to move into a nursing home. Culver allegedly used the victim’s checks to write out loans to himself or his company, for himself and his wife, and written to cash. He also is suspected of withdrawing money from the victim’s account. False tax returns were also filed for five years failing to claim $290,000 in income, which would have amounted to just under $21,000 in Wisconsin income tax. An initial court appearance is scheduled in Winnebago County court on October 12th.

Waushara County Drunken Driving Arrest

The State Patrol arrested a 48-year-old Tomah woman for her fourth operating a motor vehicle while under the influence offense after a two-vehicle crash in Waushara County Friday morning. Troopers responded for the rear-end collision shortly after 8:30 that morning to State Highway 21 and 4th Avenue. The crash involved a 1994 Ford Potato truck and a 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage.  Effie Mae Krosinski, who was driving the Mitsubishi, failed a field sobriety test. She was subsequently arrested for her 4th OWI offense and operating after revocation.

Parties Issue Joint Statement On Political Yard Sign Theft And Vandalism

The heads of the Fond du Lac County Democratic and Republican parties issued a joint statement recently condemning the vandalism, theft and destruction of political yard signs. Republican Party Chairman Rohn Bishop says the idea came from Democratic Party member Tom Kitchen and Democratic Party Chairman Joseph Lavrenz agreed to it. Bishop says Democrats had problems with Joe Biden signs being taken and vandalized when they were put out in July and Republicans also have had issues with Donald Trump signs. “Tom Kitchen reached out to me and asked if we were having a similar problem and I was like as a matter of fact we are. We’ve had issues where the Trump/Pence signs are being stolen and the 4 by 8s are being vandalized.” Bishop says they don’t charge anything for the signs, but people usually donate a few dollars toward their cost. He says it means something to the person who puts the sign out on their lawn. County District Attorney Eric Toney says if charged as a crime the person who steals or vandalizes a sign could get up to 9 months in jail and up to $10,000 in fines.

Getting Test To Make Sure

Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says people have to err on the side of caution if they don’t know what is making them feel unwell. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says one of the reason they are seeing so many cases of the coronavirus is because people who don’t feel well are still going to work, school, social functions or are mistakenly assuming they are suffering from allergies. Puhlmann-Becker says it won’t cost anything to get tested to make sure it isn’t COVID. “I talked to an employee this morning who said I have this, this, this and this is exactly what I feel like when I have an allergy reaction but in these times I said you need to go get tested to confirm that it is not COVID.” Puhlmann-Becker says on the other hand it is hard on businesses to have employees out because they are being tested for COVID or have to be isolated or hospitalized because they have it.

Pork Now Leaner

With National Pork Month coming up next month Julia Nunes, the 73rd Alice in Diaryland, is pointing out the benefits of pork as a meal option. She says there is an assumption that it is not a lean meat, but that is no longer the case. “But in the past 20 years seven common cuts of pork are 16 percent leaner and have 27 percent less saturated fat than it did 20 years ago. So things have really improved the healthiness of pork.” She says pork is also an excellent source of protein and provides several important vitamins and minerals. It is also a heart-healthy food and is low in sodium. She also notes it is something that is easy to prepare at home.
