Focusing On Recovery
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says too much focus is being put on how many new cases of COVID-19 are being reported each day and not enough on the number of recoveries. “We are doing a very great job in really being able to tackle and take care of the sickness at home. The majority of people are going to be able to handle it at home and they are going to be recovered from it as well.” She also says given the number of cases the County has had the number of deaths and hospitalizations have remained relatively low. According to state figures Fond du Lac County’s fatality rate percentage for COVID cases was at eight-tenths of a percent Wednesday morning compared to the state average of 1.3 percent.
COVID Impacting Young Adults
Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says says back-to-school is having an impact on the age groups they see experiencing more rates of the coronavirus. He notes the highest incidents of infection are for 18 to 24-year-olds followed more distantly by 25 to 30-year-olds. “First they are living in dorms that are notoriously dense populations. He says in talking to a few college students there is a certain attitude that isn’t wholly incorrect but there is a flaw in it that if we all got it we wouldn’t need to worried so much.” He says those with that belief including his daughter think that if you got it and got through it we could get on with our lives. Puhlmann-Becker says the problem is if you get it you end up spreading it to others and the virus impacts people in varying degrees including death.

It is the fifth Mega Millions jackpot won this year. The numbers were 25, 28, 38, 59, 62 and the Mega Ball was 22. The lump sum payment option for Tuesday’s jackpot before taxes is $94.6 million. The store that sold the winning ticket will get $100,000. Mount Pleasant is located in Racine County.
Social Security Scam
Markesan Police are warning residents about a Social Security scam. They’ve received several complaints from people who got calls from someone saying their Social Security number has been compromised. The scammer tells the person they are trying to help them and that they need the person to give their number to them to “verify” it. Police say it’s a scam and the best thing to do is to hang up on the caller. They say you should never give out your Social Security number over the phone.

A Dodge County man was among nine people Governor Tony Evers granted pardons to. Thirty-three-year-old Richard Walker lives in Burnett with his wife and children. Walker was 19 years old when he got into a fight with another young man in June of 2006, which led to a disorderly conduct charge. Walker was among the nine applicants who went before the Governor’s Pardon Advisory Board on August 18th that were granted pardons. The governor has now granted pardons to 65 individuals. The Advisory Board met again this week.
