Gas Leak Disrupts Classes At MPTC In FDL

Classes scheduled in the E-wing of Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac had to be cancelled Monday afternoon due to a gas leak in the area. A gas leak was found on the campus in the E-wing, which caused an evacuation of that section of the campus. The college worked with officials from the Fond du Lac Fire Department and contractors to repair the leak. College officials last evening about six o’clock reported the leak was under control and classes would resume today.

CDBG Funding For COVID Relief Announced

Wisconsin and its cities and counties will be receiving a total of $23.4 million in federal Community Development Block Grants for their response to COVID-19 and in particular its impacts on the economy and housing.  Among those receiving the grants the city of Appleton will get $343,268, the city of Fond du Lac will receive $194,332 and the city of Oshkosh nearly $292,664. EpiPen Legislation

Congressman Glenn Grothman says he will follow up recent legislation he introduced to increase competition in the insulin market with a bill that will make EipPens more affordable and accessible. He says it would be federal version of bill similar to one Wisconsin has. He says he met a woman in the Maribel area that lost her son to an allergic reaction. “I know a woman whose son died because he couldn’t get an EpiPen, one wasn’t available and it is really horrible when somebody dies of an allergy like that.” The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah introduced his biosimilars insulin bill last week in Congress.

FDL County Board Preview

In addition to its regular business the Fond du Lac County Board tonight will approve three proclamations. One of those proclamations will congratulate the Church of Peace in Fond du Lac on its 150th Anniversary. The church on Military Road was formed by German immigrants in 1870. The Board will also designate this month and next month as United Way months in Fond du Lac County with both the Fond du Lac Area United Way and Ripon Area United Way launching their annual campaigns. A third resolution commends the Wisconsin National Guard for recently staging a free COVID-19 testing site in Fond du Lac. The Board meets at 6 pm at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.

Ripon Chamber Introduces New FB Page

The Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce has its own page on Facebook now. Chamber Executive Director Jason Mansmith says this gives them the opportunity to be a little more focused on the chamber rather than the city overall. “It’s a little bit more business focused, it’s a little bit more event focused and just some things we want to share with our members of the community and also the general community as well.” Mansmith says it’s a little different than the Ripon, Wisconsin page they were sharing with Ripon Main Street. The new page made its official debut on September 1st.
