Reopen FDL County Task Force Meets For The First Time In Months

For the first time in over three months the Reopen Fond du Lac County Task Force met. It disbanded shortly before Memorial Day weekend. Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says COVID-19 case numbers increasing in the county and schools resuming the committee decided to hold a meeting. One of things discussed was what colleges and universities have in place to try and keep students, faculty and staff safe from the virus. He says for the most part they are doing a good job, but it is how and where students spend time off-campus that is of particular concern. In Wisconsin the age group with the highest positivity rate for the virus is 20 to 29-years-olds, which was at 24 percent during the past week. “But the 20’s are sometimes invincible and believe that they are young and health and won’t get it and they may not be showing symptoms or suffer as much as others, but they certainly can get it. They are also a very social group.” He says the other concern the task force discussed was what happens if a school that restarted has to go all virtual. Puhlmann-Becker says earlier this year with many businesses closed or workers working from home parents were home to take care of their kids, but aren’t now.

Congressman Grothman On Trump Kenosha Visit

President Donald Trump’s visit to Kenosha this week had its critics, but Congressman Glenn Grothman says it was nice to see the President wasn’t afraid to come to Wisconsin given the nature of recent protests over a police shooting there. Trump’s campaign has focused on a “Law and Order” theme of late. Grothman applauds that approach. “I think as President he wanted to show that he respected law enforcement, he respected people that are trying to keep order in this country.” The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah wasn’t able to be at the President’s appearance in Kenosha, but was at a recent stop Trump made in Oshkosh.

Drive Through Job Fairs Scheduled

Officials with the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board say two drive-through job fairs have been scheduled for Thursday, September 17th from 12-4 pm.  One will be held at the Fond du Lac St. Vincent de Paul Store at 330 North Peters Avenue and the other is at the Menasha Job Center parking lot at 1802 Appleton Road.  The two drive-through job fairs are part of a statewide effort happening in 21 locations in 19 cities across the state on the same date and time. Life Jackets Reminder

As the Labor Day holiday weekend approaches the Wisconsin DNR is urging residents to wear life jackets if they will be enjoying the state’s waterways. With summer drawing to a close, 19 people have died in boating accidents in the state this year. The DNR says 16 of those were drownings. Fourteen of those people were not wearing life jackets, and one person’s life jacket was incorrectly secured. Residents are also asked to enjoy the waters sober and know your limits, keep an eye on the weather, and reminded river shorelines and sandbars can pose unseen dangers.
