Missing Ripon Man Located
Ripon Police have located a man that was reported missing by his family. Dean Kammer was found early Monday evening. Police say he had left his residence in the City of Ripon on foot last weekend and his family reported him missing since he hadn’t been seen since Saturday. Family told police he generally walks to places and had no vehicle when he left. Ripon Police had posted several photos of him on their Facebook page when they were trying to locate him.
Former FDL Man Facing Reckless Homicide Charge
Bond was set at $1 million cash for a former Fond du Lac man facing first degree reckless homicide and felony bail jumping charges for the death of a young girl. Thomas Abitz Jr. made his initial appearance in Fond du Lac County court Monday for charges stemming from the June 2017 death of the girl. Abitz was already serving time for causing a traumatic brain injury to the girl in March of 2011. She lived with the consequences of that injury until she died from what the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner said was pneumonia from chronic health problems created by the head injury. Abitz will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on October 30th.
Kenosha Police Use Tear Gas On Protestors
Police in Kenosha dealt with angry protestors last night firing tear gas into a crowd at the Kenosha County Courthouse during a second straight night of protests over the police shooting of a black man. The tear gas was fired about a half hour after an 8 pm curfew was implemented in an attempt to disperse the crowd. Cell phone video of police shooting Jacob Blake in the back as he was getting into an SUV went viral Sunday night sparking protests. Governor Tony Evers authorized 125 members of the Wisconsin National Guard to support law enforcement efforts in Kenosha County during the protests. Blake’s three sons ages, 8, 5, and 3 were in the vehicle when he was shot.
Arson Suspect Arraigned
The 43-year-old North Fond du Lac man facing over two dozen charges for allegedly setting a dozen fires was recently arraigned in Fond du Lac County court. Michael Miller pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect during last Thursday’s hearing. According to the criminal complaint Miller admitted to setting nine of the fires after he was identified as a suspect. He used rags, men’s and women’s underwear to light the fires which occurred between last September and this April. The fires were set in the Town of Friendship, Fond du Lac and North Fond du Lac.
Church Burglary Suspect Charged
A 26-year-old Waupaca man has been charged for burglary and vandalism at the Waushara Community Church in Marion on August 17th. Charges against Nathan Kozlowski include two counts each of burglary and criminal damage to property and one count of theft. According to the criminal complaint derogatory slurs against law enforcement and religion were spray-painted throughout the building. Also, file cabinets were opened, doors were damaged, and rooms were ransacked. Kozlowski was identified through surveillance photos.
FDL Woman Hurt In Washington County Rollover Accident
A 22-year-old Fond du Lac woman was injured in a rollover accident on Interstate 41 northbound in Washington County’s Village of Slinger Saturday evening. Sheriff’s officials say she drove off the road and hit a construction barrel and her vehicle rolled over. When rescuers arrived, she was unconscious in the upside down vehicle. She was flown to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee with head, arm and chest injuries.
Office Closings For Labor Day
All Fond du Lac County offices in the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. In addition, the Sheriff’s Office lobby window, the Portland Street Annex including the Veteran’s Service Office, Social Services and Highway Departments will also be closed. The Moraine Lakes Consortium call center will also be closed for Labor Day.
