Ballweg Wins Republican Senate Primary Race
State Representative Joan Ballweg easily won the Republican primary for the 14th State Senate Tuesday getting nearly 70 percent of vote to defeat Ken Van Dyke, Sr. Ballweg says she got strong support from voters in the 41st Assembly District she is currently representing and also from voters in the 42nd, which is also part of the 14th. She says during the rest of the campaign she needs to continue to push to get better known in the northern part of the Senate District. She will face Democrat Joni Anderson in the November 3rd election.
Dallman Wins Republican Primary For 41st
Former Green Lake County Republican Party Chairman Alex Dallman got nearly half of the votes cast in the four man race in the State Assembly District 41 Republican primary Tuesday. He defeated Gary Will, Luke Dretske, and Chuck Harsh. Dallman says he had a lot of hard working people behind his campaign. Former Ripon Mayor Gary Will came in second with about 20 percent of the vote. He says running for state office was a good experience for him. Dallman will face Democrat Nate Zimdars in the November 3rd election.
Congressional Races
Former State Senator Jessica King was an overwhelming winner in the Democratic primary for the 6th Congressional District seat in Tuesday’s election. King got about 75 percent of the vote with her two opponents Michael Beardsley and Matthew Boor getting the rest. King will face incumbent Republican Glenn Grothman in the November 3rd General and Presidential Election. Grothman had no opponent in the primary.
In the Republican primary for the 5th Congressional District seat State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald easily defeated opponent Cliff DeTemple. Fitzgerald got more than 75 percent of the vote. Incumbent Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner decided not to seek another term.
FDL County Voter Turnout
Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says they had a pretty good turnout for an August Primary Election. She says 14,513 registered voters cast their ballots or about 26 percent of eligible voters in the county. “I think there was more of a turnout just because of the amount of absentee ballots that were sent out.” She notes the election went pretty smooth especially for in-person voting. Freiberg was also on the ballot seeking another four-year term as County Clerk. She is unopposed and got more than 6,900 votes Tuesday.
Ripon Voting Contested Races
With Republican races for the 14th State Senate and 41st State Assembly seats 34 percent of registered voters in Ripon or 1,358 of the 3,975 eligible voters cast their ballots Tuesday. Ripon residents favored former Mayor Gary Will in the Republican primary for the 41st giving Will 410 votes to Alex Dallman’s 301. They also liked Joan Ballweg in the Republican primary for the 14th casting 601 votes for her and 136 for her opponent Ken Van Dyke, Sr. Former State Senator Jessica King won over voters in the Democratic primary for the 6th Congressional District giving her 407 votes or 79 percent of the vote in that race.
