Ken Van Dyke Sr., of Scandinavia realizes he is the underdog in his race for the 14th State Senate seat. He faces longtime State Representative Joan Ballweg next Tuesday in the Primary Election. Both are Republicans and the winner will face Democrat Joni Anderson of Adams in November. Van Dyke has been the owner of Van Dyke’s Restaurant for over 20 years, but has been involved in local Government for over 30 years including the Waupaca County Board. He feels rural areas are being under represented at the State Capitol. He says one example is in the funding for road improvements. “In 2015 we were on a road replacement schedule of 371 years meaning that once every four centuries or so we would get a road replaced up here. We get less than 5 percent of the state funding for roads.” He says he’s tired of rural communities getting the short end of the stick. Van Dyke also feels legislators have been irresponsible about protecting people from the coronavirus or setting an example for them. He says he has lost friends to the virus. Van Dyke does not have a website for his campaign, but does have a Facebook page which you can find under “Ken Van Dyke Sr for Wisconsin Senate District 14.”
