COVID Moving North
A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says there should be more concern about the virus appearing to be migrating north. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says Dr. Anthony Fauci noted Tuesday that the coronavirus seems to be leveling off in California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida but now seems to be moving north. “Coronavirus tests were rising in Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Two of those states are really close to us. If it is creeping north as it would appear it is because people move from one state to the next they go on vacation they visit family. It is moving north.” The White House Tuesday also labeled 21 states including Wisconsin as Red Zone States where increases in COVID-19 cases should be met with increased restrictions. Puhlmann-Becker says we should stick with Dr. Fauci’s advice to socially distance, wear protective face masks, wash your hands frequently, and stay home if you’re sick.

Elvis Gospel Show
Five Elvis impersonators will perform during the Ken Yahnke Elvis Gospel Show at the Peniel Welsh Chapel in the Town of Eldorado Saturday at 7 pm. Carolee Schultz is on the Community Outreach Board for the Chapel. She says they met Yahnke at a car dealership in Appleton and after some conversation invited him to do a show at the Chapel. “Found out he was a wonderful Christian and he was an Elvis impersonator and I told him about Penial Welsh Chapel and I said Wow this would be a great concert would you like to come and do an Elvis Gospel Show? And he said you bet I will bring my friends along.” There is free admission, but donations are welcome. Money will be used for improvements to the Chapel which was built in 1856. The Chapel is located at W9644 Zoar Road in Oshkosh, but is actually in the Town of Eldorado about a half miles west of State Highway 26. The event is rain or shine.
National Night Out Celebrations Being Cancelled
The coronavirus will impact the National Night Out celebrations held by law enforcement departments held throughout the nation. It’s a community police awareness event that was created in 1984. The National Night Out was to be held next Tuesday, but some departments including the Fond du Lac Police Department are opting not to hold it this year. Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says they won’t be holding their event Tuesday, but they are instead hoping to hold it in October. He says that depends on how health issues connected to the global pandemic continue this fall.
Sharp Tailed Grouse Hunting Season Cancelled
You can chalk up the Sharp-tailed grouse hunting season as another casualty of the pandemic. State Department of Natural Resource officials say the official reason is lack of scientific data and concerns over population viability. Each year, the Sharp-tailed Grouse Advisory Committee uses spring mating survey data to recommend permit levels for the hunting season to the department’s Bureau of Wildlife Management leadership team. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, surveys were unable to be fully completed. With no permits available, no applications will be made available or accepted this year.
