Bicyclist Killed In Waupaca County Accident

Waupaca County Sheriff’s officials say a bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Stratton Lake Road and Holmlane Road in the Town of Dayton. Both were traveling on Stratton Lake Road. The bicyclist was flown to a hospital and later pronounced dead at that hospital. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The accident was reported at 1:34 pm.

Six Hurt In FDL County Accident

Six people were injured including four children when a car and a minivan collided on Rolling Meadows Drive south of Fond du Lac County Highway OO in the Town of Fond du Lac Friday afternoon just before 2:30 pm.  Sheriff’s officials say the driver of the northbound car, a 27-year-old North Fond du Lac man, crossed over the centerline colliding with the minivan driven by a 29-year-old North Fond du Lac woman. All six were initially taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac including the woman’s 1, 5, 10 and 12-year old children. The North Fond du Lac man was eventually flown to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center and the 5 and 12-year-old children were flown to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. The others suffered non-life threatening injuries.

FDL Man Sentenced For Shooting Man In The Leg

Fond du Lac County Judge Robert Wirtz Friday sentenced a 26-year-old Fond du Lac man that shot another man in the leg, to nine years in prison and nine years of extended supervision. Last January a jury found Mohamed Elmhdati guilty of six charges including two counts of first degree recklessly endangering safety. Charges stemmed from an incident in Fond du Lac on February 26th of 2019 when he shot a man in the leg with a handgun over a drug dispute.  According to the criminal complaint Elmhdati shot the man on a street in front of the man’s 5-year-old daughter. District Attorney Eric Toney says his office takes gun violence seriously.

Oshkosh Drive By Shootings Investigated

Oshkosh Police are investigating two drive-by shootings that occurred within 10 minutes of each other early Friday morning. One happened in the area of West New York Avenue and North Main Street. There was no damage to any residence and no one was hurt. The other happened in the 1000 block of Wisconsin Street. Officers found shell casings, but no one was injured and no property was damaged. Investigators believe they were isolated incidents and the public is not in danger. Anyone with information is asked to call 920-236-5726.

Broadband Access A Campaign Issue

Forty-first State Assembly candidate Luke Dretske says broadband access is an important issue in the campaign. The Ripon College student is one of four Republicans running for the seat and will graduate early in December. He says during the pandemic the issue of broadband access has been more important than ever with virtual learning being used as a tool to teach kids stuck at home. “Over in the Montello School District 25 percent of their student body didn’t have reliable connection to internet so when you’re doing virtual classes and all that stuff that is a huge problem. So we need to make sure we can address that so how we can expand our broadband not only for our schools, but for small businesses nd manufacturers in the area.” Dretske is studying politics and finance at Ripon College. DOC Investigation Into CCI Escape Concludes

The State’s Department of Corrections recently concluded 13 personnel investigations related to the escape of two inmates from Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage in April. The two inmates were captured in Rockford, Illinois the day after their escape. As a result of the investigation 7 staff members were terminated, 1 was suspended for 5 days, 1 staff member was cleared, and 4 staff members resigned during the course of the investigation. The two inmates were Thomas Deering and James Newman.

Silver Alert For Missing Man Cancelled

The state’s Department of Justice early Friday afternoon cancelled a Silver Alert for an 84-year-old man. Arian Potter was found safe. He had last been seen near Westfield last Monday. His physical description, a description of his vehicle, and a photo of him were issued in an effort to find him. The Alert was cancelled Friday afternoon at 12:34 pm.

Congressman Grothman Donates Paycheck

Congressman Glenn Grothman recently distributed a paycheck to 27 food pantries around Wisconsin’s Sixth Congressional District to help fight hardships brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. His total donations amounted to over $10,000. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says he was worried that when federal benefits go down at the end of July the need will go up. He adds most food pantries have seen increased need and they are especially grateful for donations.
