FDL Man Suspected Of Homicide In Fatal Accident

A 27-year-old Fond du Lac man is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a first degree intentional homicide charge for a fatal accident in the County last Friday evening. Sheriff’s officials say Daniel Navarro was driving his pickup truck east on Winnebago Drive when he crossed over the centerline and struck a motorcycle being operated by 55-year-old Phillip Thiessen of Fond du Lac. Thiessen was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene. The accident happened near the intersection of Winnebago Drive and Taycheedah Way in the Town of Taycheedah.

Shooting Reported At Fondy Sports Aqua Park

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Fondy Sports Aqua Park in the Town of Fond du Lac early Monday afternoon for a report of an accidental gunshot wound to the leg. A 32-year-old Milwaukee woman was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac where she was treated and released. Sheriff’s investigators learned the woman had the gun inside her purse at the Aqua Park where it became wet.  She was inside her vehicle drying it off when it accidentally discharged. Charges of recklessly endangering safety and carrying a concealed weapon have been referred to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office.

Plane Crashed In Winnebago County On The Fourth Of July

A 34-year-old Colorado man escaped injured last Saturday night when his single-engine plane overshot the Brennand Airport in Winnebago County and crashed into a ditch. Sheriff’s officials say it happened shortly after 9:30 pm at the airport at 3282 Breezewood Lane in the Town of Clayton. The 1966 Moody struck the north ditch past the end of the runway causing moderate damage to its propeller and nose. The NTSB and FAA are investigating the crash. The Town of Clayton Fire Department also responded to the scene.

FDL County High Speed Chase

A 20-year-old man is facing first degree recklessly endangering safety and eluding causing bodily harm charges for leading Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase last Thursday night. A deputy tried to pull the man over for speeding on Interstate 41 near County Highway N in the Town of Eldorado. The vehicle exited I-41 in Fond du Lac and then took town roads in an effort to get away, but lost control on Hillcrest Road and crashed into a utility pole injuring the driver and a passenger. They both were taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac with non-life threatening injuries. The chase covered 11 miles.

Oshkosh Man Caught Up In Operation Kick Boxer Arrests

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department was one of 63 law enforcement agencies last month working with the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Forces on Operation Kick Boxer. The operation resulted in dozens of arrests across the country, as well as in other countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Romania, and France. More importantly so far 18 children have been recovered saved from being sexually exploited.  Among the 65 arrested was 51-year-old Martin McKeever of Oshkosh who was indicted on June 23rd for two counts of possessing and distributing child porn.

State Investigating Sheboygan Police Involved Shooting Death

The state’s Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer involved shooting death in Sheboygan that occurred last Thursday. Sheboygan Police Officer Bryan Pray shot and killed 32-year-old Kevin Ruffin, Jr. who was carrying weapons and refused to drop them. Pray shot Ruffin after non-lethal means to subdue him were unsuccessful. Pray, who has been with the Sheboygan Police Department 2 ½ years, has been placed on administrative leave. Once the DCI’s investigation is complete it will turn over its reports to the Sheboygan County District Attorney’s Office.
