Police Reform Bill
Congressman Glenn Grothman voted against a police reform bill Thursday. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says it was a bill that was being pushed by Democrats and would take away law enforcement officer’s qualified immunity which protects them from lawsuits in use of force complaints. But he says the bill goes too far. “They want to say whenever a policeman pursues somebody, handcuffs somebody they could be sued by that person. Well pretty quickly you have a very different sort of police force they are not going to protect they are going to be afraid of being sued whenever they touch anybody.” The bill isn’t expected to make it through the Senate and if it did Grothman says the President would kill it.

ADVOCAP Head Start Families Getting Help With Food Needs
ADVOCAP’s Director of Head Start says they have filled the gap for their Head Start and 4K families during the pandemic by supplying them with food deliveries when possible. Hillary Guenther says the food was included with educational packets they delivered to homes when Safer at Home orders shut down schools. A grant has helped them extend those food deliveries through next month. “So we will be extending our food deliveries to help with that food need until July 30th to our highest need families.” She says unfortunately the funding won’t allow them to supply all 250 families in their programs with food, but about half of them. Others who have a need should let ADVOCAP know by calling (920) 922-7760, extension 3512.

Ripon Area School District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says they are proud of the new turf recently installed at Ingall’s Field and those who made it all possible. “It’s beautiful and that’s a huge shout out to our community members because the field was made possible with an endowment fund through a referendum years and years ago and it really was a gift from those taxpayers at the time forward to all of us today.” She says other community members are selling advertising on signs around the field, which could help pay for improvements to the fence, concrete, sound system or other things at the field. The field is used by both the school district and Ripon College.
