Major League Baseball and the MLBPA issued statements Tuesday night that the 2020 season will begin in a month, with players reporting for training on July 1st. Most teams will use their own stadiums for training.
Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a release Tuesday night: “Major League Baseball is thrilled to announce that the 2020 season is on the horizon. We have provided the Players Association with a schedule to play 60 games and are excited to provide our great fans with Baseball again soon.”
And the union’s announcement: All remaining issues have been resolved and Players are reporting to training camps.
The 60 game season will begin July 23rd or 24th, and end on September 27th. MLB has submitted a schedule to the MLBPA for review. It will largely feature divisional play, with the remaining portion being the opposite league’s same division. So for the Brewers, they will face teams from the NL and AL Central Divisions.

The FBI says the noose found in Bubba Wallace’s garage at Talladega Superspeedway had been there since 2019.
“The FBI learned that garage number 4, where the noose was found, was assigned to Bubba Wallace last week,” a joint statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and FBI said. “The investigation also revealed evidence, including authentic video confirmed by NASCAR, that the noose found in garage number 4 was in that garage as early as October 2019.”
No federal charges will be filed.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in remarks reported Tuesday that whether an NFL season — or college football season — takes place this fall is “impossible to call” at this juncture, per Sports Illustrated.com’s Jets Country.
Fauci, speaking in the aftermath of previous comments he made in which he said football would need to enact a “bubble” format to be able to go forward this autumn, said a decision on playing the season would come down to progress in decreasing cases in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and added his aforementioned comments had been taken out of context.
In statements made to CNN on Thursday, Fauci previously said: “Unless players are essentially in a bubble — insulated from the community and they are tested nearly every day — it would be very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall. If there is a second wave, which is certainly a possibility and which would be complicated by the predictable flu season, football may not happen this year.”
In his most recent comments, Fauci added clarification and his belief that his words were taken out of context.
“My statements about the NFL season have been misinterpreted and taken out of context,” he said. “I was asked by officials from the NFL about risks associated with various scenarios that the NFL might face in consideration of the upcoming season. I provided advice from a public health standpoint. The ultimate decision is not mine but that of the officials of the NFL and the players themselves.

The Detroit Lions have a new owner.
The team announced Tuesday that Martha Firestone Ford, who took over after William Clay Ford Sr. died in 2014, has stepped down as the principal owner of the team. Sheila Ford Hamp will succeed her mother as the club’s principal owner and chairman.

University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titan, Baylee Tkaczuk, has been nominated for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the year award. Tkaczuk, the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association’s 2020 Outstanding Senior of the Year, competed on both the balance beam and uneven bars during all nine of UW-Oshkosh’s meets this season.
At the WIAC Championship on March 7, Tkaczuk helped UW-Oshkosh to its first league title since 1996 by finishing second on the uneven bars.
However, Tkaczuk is also being recognized for impact out of the gym.
“I do volunteer work at Winnebago Mental Health Institute where I put in about 200 hours of helping facilitate group therapy with mentally ill patients and help them get back on their feet,” Tkaczuk explained
The winner of the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year award will be announced on November 1st.
