Farmers To Families Food Box Program Returns To Ripon
The Farmers to Families Food Box program returns to Ripon tomorrow. Amy Pollesch is the Executive Director of Traded Treasures Thrift Store and Community Food Pantry. She says a similar program earlier this month distributed food to 200 families in Ripon. She says it will be a Truck to Trunk event. “To continue the safe distancing for families that are concerned or immune compromised and to continue help out our farmers and get fresh produce, fresh vegetables, fresh meat and dairy into the homes of families who might be struggling.” The distribution is from 9 to 11 am at the Ripon High School or until all the food is distributed. The Community Food Pantry also contributes an additional bag of groceries to each family for the program. The only thing they ask families is to have their trunks cleaned out before they arrive for the distribution.
FDL County Reopen Plan
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says because of the confusion of the Badger Bounce Back plan her department is issuing a specific plan for the reopening of Fond du Lac County. The County was following the Badger Bounce Back plan. “Up until now we’ve been following it and providing guidance to our businesses as well as recommendations based on this plan. Because of the uncertainty of this plan I feel it makes more sense for our community to follow a plan designed just for Fond du Lac County.” She says the Fond du Lac County plan will help businesses with the directions they need and will answer questions residents have regarding the size of gatherings and when it is safe to have larger gatherings.
Saying Something
A campus minister at Ripon College says racial relations won’t improve if we don’t speak up when we see a problem. Mandy Kiems says when she was in high school whites were in the minority in her school and although she was a good student she got sent to office for disrespecting her Spanish teacher. While in the office she witnessed an incident between a white police officer and black student. “He was writing him up and he aggressively pushed him up against the wall and said look I’m writing you up can you even read and in that moment instead of saying something I was so afraid, this is someone who is an authority, this is someone I’m supposed to respect.” She says it’s hard to be prejudiced when you meet with people face-to-face. That’s why she organized the Stand Together event held in Ripon this past Saturday. She says those types of events are catalysts to help people talk more.
