Stand Together
An event in Ripon Saturday morning hopes to promote unity and better race relations. Mandy Kiems is part of the Campus Ministry program at Ripon College. She organized Stand Together, which will be held tomorrow morning at 10 am on the Village Green. There will be a number of speakers including Mayor Ted Grant and Police Chief Bill Wallner. She says in the wake of the police custody death of George Floyd and subsequent events there’s a lot of talking past each other, but really not to each other. She’s hoping this event and others like it will promote a better understanding. “So we’re hoping to walk away more committed to unity because unity doesn’t just happen we have to really work for it, but also with some practical steps of what we can do to make our community a safer more welcoming place to live.” In the event of rain Stand Together will be held at the pavilion in Barlow Park.
FDL County Fair Moves Forward As Free Modified Fair
The Fond du Lac County Fair is moving forward in a modified fashion next month. Grandstand acts have been postponed until 2021. Fair Board officials say The Roots and Boos 90’s Electric Throwdown, Chris Janson, and Daughtry have all confirmed dates for the 2021 Fair. Bull riding and barrel racing, truck and tractor pulls, and demo derby have also confirmed dates for the 2021 fair. The 2020 Fondy Fair 5K Run/Walk has been cancelled. The junior and open shows will continue in a safe, modified format. There will be no carnival rides or games. It will be a modified free fair with free parking Thursday, July 16th through Sunday, July 19th.
Business Reopening Task Force Accomplishes Much
The president and CEO of the Reopen Fond du Lac County Task Force says if they have to reform in the fall to further address issues related to the pandemic they will. But Sadie Parafiniuk feels they accomplished all they needed to do before Memorial Day weekend when they disbanded. “We felt really good and confident about where we were as a county when the Safer at Home order was lifted that we had prepared our communities and messaging to deal with that.” Among the things they were able to accomplish was putting together guidelines for reopening, a pandemic operations plan, signage for businesses, and recommended best practices for health and safety.
Refunds For Rock And Country USA Refunds May Be Long In Coming
The state’s Division of Trade and Consumer Protection has fielded nearly three dozen complaints from people who haven’t gotten refunds from the cancelled Country and Rock USA events in Oshkosh. Under state statute concert goers can receive a refund if they ask for it, but the promoter has 60 days to complete the request. The promoter of the two music events, Hypervibe, issued a statement Tuesday saying they are working with those that they are financially obligated to be able to use funds on hand for refunding ticket holders. Those who don’t want the refund can use this year’s tickets to get into next year’s events.
Highway 67 Project Starts Monday
The state’s Department of Transportation tells us State Highway 67 construction in Fond du Lac County will begin next Monday. The $4.1 million project will take place on a 10.5 mile stretch of highway between Triple S Road in the Village of Campbellsport to Division Road on the Sheboygan/Fond du Lac County line. The project should be completed in October. State Highway 67 will be closed for two, 12-working day periods. It will remain open with flagging operations during other work. Northeast Asphalt of Greenville is the prime contractor.
Senator Feyen Endorsed By Three Sheriffs
Incumbent State Senator Dan Feyen has picked up the endorsement of all three Sheriff’s in his bid for reelection to the 18th State Senate District. Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt, Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz, and Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt are endorsing the Republican candidate from Fond du Lac. Feyen is being challenged by Democrat Aaron Wojciechowski who served two terms on the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors.
Ripon Senior Happenings
The Ripon Senior Activity Center has cancelled a picnic it had planned for next month due to the global pandemic. Senior Center Executive Director Noreen Johnson says they had already rented the pavilion at Murray Park for the Friday, July 10th event. She invites people to bring their own lunch and join them. “We were going to have our picnic, but we won’t have it then but we still have the pavilion so we would like to invite people over so bring your lunch with you everybody will bring their own lunch and we will just hang out and chat, it will be very low key.” She says one thing they will be doing next month is start up their technology classes again to teach people how to use a kindle or an app or the computer. It will be done by small groups and by appointment.
FDL Area Foundation Awards Disaster Grants
The Fond du Lac Area Foundation distributed 19 pandemic relief grants to Fond du Lac County nonprofit organizations. The grants are a result of the Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund, which was created in 2008 and is set in action only in response to extreme circumstances. The fund was activated in April in response to COVID-19’s deep community impact. Nonprofit organizations receiving grants are; Badgerland Youth for Christ, Bay Lakes Council, Bo’s Heavenly Clubhouse, Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac, Broken Bread, Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac, Consumer Credit Counseling Service, Family Resource Center of Fond du Lac County, Fond du Lac Adult Literacy Services, Fond du Lac Family YMCA, Fondy Food Pantry, Gratitude Club, Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County, Lakeland Care, Salute the Troops, Salvation Army of Fond du Lac County, Solutions Center, The of Fond du Lac, and YScreen.
