Task Force Was Ready For Court Decision

It may have come as a surprise, but Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Reopen Fond du Lac Task Force was ready when the State Supreme Court overturned the extension of Governor Tony Evers Safer at Home order. Envision President and CEO Sadie Parafiniuk says they already had a blueprint to help out businesses. “Our task force had already put out resources for businesses on how to reopen safely things that they should start thinking about so when they can open they were ready to go, an employee screening tool, posters to put in your front window. So we had the resources ready.” She was proud that the task force was able to put out the same message county wide that businesses can reopen if they chose, but were asked to do it safely and responsibly and support was available if they needed it.

Collateral Damage For Nursing Homes

A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says the virus itself isn’t the only threat to long-term care assisted living facilities. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says the pandemic does put the vulnerable population of those facilities at-risk, but the collateral damage is whether those facilities will be able to survive the financial fall-out and other issues. He says it doesn’t help that the state is posting the names of facilities where residents have tested positive for COVID-19. “You don’t need a scarlet letter on you because something that is going around the whole community and whole world happened in your facility despite your best efforts.” He says the facilities have to take extra precautions, some suffer from staff shortages and employees who go home and return to work the next day run the risk of bringing the virus into the facility.

Ripon Summer School Will Be Virtual

The Ripon Area School District will be offering a 5-week virtual summer school. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says she learned from State Representative Joan Ballweg that the state has put things into place to allow a virtual version of summer school. “With some of the things that have gone through and some of the orders and things have changed we are now able to have a virtual summer school. So we will do that we will launch it the same week that our original summer school was planned. The only change we’ve made is that we are going to run it Monday through Thursday just because that online connectedness is just so much more intense for students.” They also hope to offer an in-person offering in August that might only be a couple of weeks to help kids transition back to school.  Summer School will be held virtually June 15th through July 16th.
