Warning About Unemployment Scam
The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board is cautioning workers laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic about an unemployment scam. A web site tried to solicit payment from a laid off worker to file an Unemployment Insurance claim with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. Anthony Snyder of the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board says the only way to legitimately file an unemployment claim in Wisconsin is to go through the Department of Workforce Development. That can be accomplished at their website or if you do not have access to the internet by calling 844-910-3661 but filing by phone should be a last resort.

Dentists Still Taking Care Of Dental Emergencies
The president of the Fond du Lac Dental Society says they are still seeing patients, but only those that need emergency treatment. Dr. Chad Goeke is a member of the Wisconsin Dental Association. He says due to the pandemic they are not doing the usual cleanings and treatment they normally do. But they are seeing those who need emergency treatment. “We want to make sure that everyone knows it is important to come in and see your dentist if you have any type of severe tooth ache, a knocked tooth, a broken tooth causing pain or like an affection or abscess because it is going to be important to keep that load off the emergency room and our healthcare workers.” He says a lot of patients will be having their temperatures taken and asked to fill out a health questionnaire. Meanwhile dentists and their workers will be dressed in personal protective equipment including masks, gloves and gowns. Those who aren’t sure if they need to come in should consult their dentist by phone. If you don’t have a regular dentist you can locate one at the Wisconsin Dental Association website.
For Congress Not Business As Usual
If the world wasn’t in the grip of the pandemic now, what would Congress be working on? Congressman Glenn Grothman says they most likely would be working on an infrastructure bill and a few other things. “Well we were supposed to do a higher education bill. I’ve got a bill that will make it easier to get substitutes for insulin on the market which I like to think has a chance of passing.” But the Federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says the fact is that we are dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak now so that is the focus. He says in some ways that is better because not everything Congress accomplishes is as important.
Walleye Weekend In FDL Postponed
Due to concerns about the COVID-19 virus the organizers of Walleye Weekend in Fond du Lac have decided to move the 3-day festival from June to August. The Board of Directors for Fond du Lac Festivals met during the past week and decided to postpone the event scheduled for June 12th through the 14th to August “Due to the current uncertainty of public gatherings.” Organizers of the Mercury National Walleye Tournament support the decision, but the tournament is still on for June 13th and 14th depending on the circumstances. A decision on whether that should be adjusted will be made about mid-May.
