Latest COVID 19 Cases In FDL County Community Spread

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller delivered an update on the COVID-19 outbreak to County Board supervisors last night via phone. Members were spread out around the legislative chambers at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac as she told them two more cases have tested positive giving the county a total of 24. She says what is different about these cases are that they were community spread and not connected to an Egyptian river cruise or travel. She was asked whether those two persons had any contact with the public. Mueller told supervisors one works for a school district and another outside of the county. She informed them that they always considered community spread would be a huge possibility. Meanwhile the county’s Emergency Operation Center has been upped to a Level One activation as it plays a supporting role to the health department and health care workers. Out of the 24 cases, 18 have recovered, 4 are being monitored, and there have been 2 deaths.

FDL County Board Passes Exemption To Family First Coronavirus Response Act

The Fond du Lac County Board Tuesday night passed a resolution exempting all emergency responders and health care providers working for the county from the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. The new law went into effect at midnight and provides a number of things including paid sick or family leave related to COVID-19. County Director of Administration Erin Gerred says under the new law that leave is a right and not just an option for anyone with children under 18 years of age. She says the exemption will give them flexibility to work with the employees essential to the operation of the county. Gerred says they will work with them on child care needs. County Board Chairperson Marty Farrell says the county runs group and nursing homes, a jail, needs dispatchers, social workers, and health care workers to keep its operations going. A number of other counties have passed similar resolutions. The board voted unanimously 21 to nothing to pass the resolution.
