Portage Man Allegedly Fired Gun During Domestic Dispute
A 72-year-old rural Portage man is facing charges for allegedly firing a gun during a domestic dispute Sunday. Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the residence at N7951 County Highway F in the Town of Fort Winnebago. It was reported that an intoxicated man in the residence had a gun and one gunshot was heard fired inside the home. Dennis O’Connell is facing second degree recklessly endangering safety, operating a firearm while intoxicated, and disorderly conduct charges. A gun and a shell casing were recovered on the first floor of the residence. O’Connell will be back in court in July.
Sex Offender Moves To Winnebago County
Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say a 40-year-old sex offender has moved from Alabama to Winneconne. Daniel Pattion is living at 6875 Wentzel Shore Road Apartment 3 in Winneconne. He is not on probation or parole. He sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl on multiple occasions. He was convicted in Winnebago County in October of 2000 and Fond du Lac County in April of 2001.
Bandanas Provide Little Protection From COVID 19 Virus
Will bandanas or make-shift face masks protect you from the COVID-19 virus? Waushara County Public Health Officer Patti Wohlfeil says there’s no real science to back up the claim. “The stuff that I have read is that there is no real science to tell you that that is going to help you not get the disease so I would think that the bandana is the same, but is it better than nothing? I’m going to tell you any of those kinds of things are better than nothing.” She says while they might not afford you the protection you need they may make you feel better about your chances of not catching the virus. She says they work best for people who are already sick helping to protect others from what they have.
Transportation Grants Awarded
Some area non-profit organizations that provide employment transportation assistance to low income workers have been awarded state grants. ADVOCAP was awarded two grants totaling nearly $165,000. Forward Service Corporation also received two grants totaling more than $276,000. Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin is also receiving grants for close to $54,000. Each grant requires a local share. Altogether 11 non-profit organizations serving 51 counties were awarded over $1.7 million in grants for projects that totaled $2.4 million.
