Travel Firm Concerned About Health Of Nile River Cruise Travelers
The co-owner of the travel firm that arranged the Nile River cruise for Fond du Lac County residents that tested positive for the COVID-19 virus says their travelers began to come down with symptoms upon their return March 2nd. Valerie Graczyk of Someday Travel says they contacted the Fond du Lac County Health Department, but because Egypt was not considered a high-risk country for the disease at the time the state did not approve testing. Days later Egypt was classified as high-risk, as the health of those travelers became worse. Graczyk says they are looking out for their travelers and their health is of utmost importance.
Mercury Marine Employee Infected With COVID 19 Virus
Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac has taken steps to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus after an hourly employee tested positive for it. That employee is under the care of medical professionals. Meanwhile the company asked employees who had contact with the affected employee to work from home and deep-cleaned the affected area. Company officials pointed out their manufacturing facilities are still running and they are not shutting down.
Isolation Important In Battle Against COVID 19 Spread
For health officials one of the most important components in stopping the spread of COVID-19 is keeping those who are being tested for the virus or have tested positive for it isolated from others. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says that’s why they are doing the testing off-site and away from a hospital or clinic setting. “We’re actually ensuring that are testing site is off-site because the last thing we would want are individuals that have some known exposure and experiencing symptoms to be walking into the emergency room or a hospital setting.” She also asks those who believe someone who has tested positive for the disease isn’t following self-isolation instructions to give them a call at 920-929-3085. Officials for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are in Fond du Lac County this week to help track the spread of the virus.
Ripon Main Street Voting
Ripon is competing in the 2020 America’s Main Street Contest. Ripon Main Street Manager Craig Tebon is asking residents to vote for Ripon. The city is one of 75 communities competing in the first phase of the contest, which will be narrowed to a top 25 and after that to a top 10 by online voting. Ripon finished in the top 25 last year. The winner of the Grand Prize of a $25,000 grant to revitalize their Main Street will be announced on June 2nd. Tebon says maybe more important than the Grand Prize is the media coverage and notoriety a city receives during the contest. Winners advancing to the next round of voting will be notified by April 19th.
Battery Reminder
Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says there is one more reminder he would like to pass along about changing batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that most people wouldn’t consider. He says some of them use 9-volt batteries and the two terminals aren’t very far apart. DeMaa says if they come into contact with some type of metal like tinfoil they could inadvertently start a fire in the trash. “If your detector uses a 9-volt battery whenever you change those out we always recommend that people use a piece of electrical tape to cover up the terminals.” He says the idea behind the battery change is to make sure you’re safe from a fire not to create one.
