Montello Man Facing Charges In Dodge County For Traffic Stop

Dodge County prosecutors have filed charges against a 24-year-old sex offender arrested during a traffic stop in Waupun last week. Tristan Horton of Montello was taken into custody on a probation hold. He was stopped for speeding on West Main Street at South State Street and a search turned up a scale and baggie of suspected meth. He is facing methamphetamine possession and obstructing an officer charges. His initial court appearance is scheduled for March 23rd. He allegedly lied to officers about who he was and had a 17-year-old girl in the vehicle with him, which violates conditions of his registration as a sex offender.

FDL Woman Killed In Illinois Crash

Authorities in Illinois say an 82-year-old Fond du Lac woman was killed in a traffic accident on Interstate 55 Monday afternoon. Robin Francis was a passenger in a vehicle that struck another vehicle that had stopped for a wheel in the roadway. The vehicle she was in then hit a semi on the shoulder of the road. She died at the scene. Seventy-four-year-old Rick Jaeger of Fond du Lac was driving the vehicle and was hurt in the collision. The other two drivers suffered minor injuries.

Domestic Violence Arrests Up In FDL

According to a report put out by the Fond du Lac Police Department domestic violence arrests increased in the city by 7.5 percent last year. The number increased to 308 in 2019 compared to 286 in 2018. That’s down from a high of 347 in 2015 and 346 in 2014. Figures were given for the past six years with an average of just under 317 incidents a year. The department formed a Domestic Violence Intervention Team in 2013 to follow up and review all incidents of domestic violence in Fond du Lac. That has helped the department improve their overall response to those types of incidents.

New Green Lake Police Chief

Green Lake has a new police chief. Former Chief Mike Ratter retired at the end of last week after 35 years with the department. A party was held for him at the American Legion Post in Green Lake Sunday. Jason Reysen who had been a sergeant with the department is the new chief. He has more than 20 years with the department. He was sworn in by City Clerk-Treasurer Barbara Dugenske.  Reysen says he’s getting used to his new role and they recently added a new officer.

Berlin Police Redesigning Uniform Patch

The Berlin Police Department is in the process of creating new department patches for those worn by officers as part of their uniform. They’ve asked school aged kids to submit their ideas and show off their talent. Some of the examples are posted on the department’s Facebook page. Children used some of the local landmarks, landscape and wildlife in their designs. A couple used the clock tower in downtown Berlin, another had a duck floating on the Fox River that runs throughout the patch like the river runs through the city, a goose in flight was part of another design.

Feyen Bill Signed Into Law

Governor Evers signed a bill into law this week that will protect homeowners from those who would take advantage of them following a natural disaster. The bill authored by State Senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac creates the framework to register public adjustors making it mandatory for out-of-state adjustors, and optional licensing for in-state.  Public adjusters are insurance adjusters who are not affiliated with an insurance company or any other insurance, construction, etc. entity. Feyen says, “This bill will safeguard homeowners as they attempt to navigate complex insurance systems for reimbursement after a storm or other catastrophe.”

Congressman Grothman Town Hall Meetings

Congressman Glenn Grothman has scheduled three town hall meetings on St. Patrick’s Day. The Tuesday, March 17th town hall meetings will be at the Poynette Village Hall from 9 to 10 am, the Wyocena Village Hall from 11 am to Noon, and the Friesland Village Hall from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Constituents of the 6th Congressional District are welcome to attend the town hall meetings to discuss issues and get their questions answered.
