Body Found In Kekoskee May Be That Of Missing Mayville Man
Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the body found on private property along Highway 67 in the Village of Kekoskee “does match the description” of a 77-year-old Mayville man who has been missing since February 15th. John Bachhuber was the subject of a Silver Alert issued by the state. It was cancelled Monday after authorities say he was located. The body was found about 6:47 pm that evening. An autopsy will determine the identity of the body. Bachhuber was last seen at the Mayville Piggly Wiggly on Saturday, February 15th.
Fatal Fire In Sheboygan
One person was killed in a fire on the northeast side of Sheboygan Monday night. Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 10 pm to the 400 block of Michigan Avenue. Fire crews found a person on the second floor of the building. The victim was taken to a hospital and died there. One firefighter was treated at the scene for injuries. Three people were displaced by the blaze, which caused about $70,000 in damage. The cause is still being determined.
Carjacking Story A Hoax
Washington County authorities say a report of an armed carjacking on Interstate 41 Saturday evening was a hoax. The alleged victim a 57-year-old Muskegon man told deputies his pickup truck was carjacked at gunpoint after he stopped to help out another motorist who appeared to have run out of gas. But Sheriff Martin Schulteis says the man recanted his story admitting he cooked it up for financial gain. Sheriff Schulteis says the initial information rightfully upset people to think that a Good Samaritan could have been victimized.
SSM Health Building A Clinic In Beaver Dam
SSM Health has announced plans to build a $16.5 million medical clinic in Beaver Dam. The 40,000 square foot, two-story clinic will be built in Beaver Dam’s Highway 151 Business Park. It will house primary and specialty care providers, imaging, laboratory and pharmacy services. Construction will begin this spring with an anticipated opening in late winter or early spring of next year. SSM Health is based in St. Louis and has facilities in southern Wisconsin including Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Ripon, Waupun, Baraboo and Madison.
Cooperation Concerns
State Senator Luther Olsen in an interview about his decision not to seek another run to represent the 14th State Senate District expressed concerns about the political divide among Republicans and Democrats. State Representative Joan Ballweg who will be running for Olsen’s seat says most of the legislation that is passed get bipartisan support. “One of the things that we need to realize is over 90 percent of the legislation that we pass is bipartisan. This last year I lead a bipartisan task force on suicide prevention that I have talked about in the past.” Ballweg says there will always be things the parties can’t agree on, but the majority of things she has been able to work with people on the other side of the aisle.
Congressman Grothman On Scalia Visit
Congressman Glenn Grothman last week hosted a visit by U.S. Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia. Grothman says Scalia toured manufacturing facilities in Milwaukee and Madison. It was a fact gathering tour to address issues like veteran employment, job training, and expanding manufacturing in the region. Grothman says Scalia asked a lot of good questions and was informed about the need for skilled-based education. “But he certainly heard a lot about the need for more skilled labor, the education system is failing us and they have too many people spending time in school and not getting the skills that are needed.” He says some fields finding it difficult to find skilled workers include the manufacturing sector, the construction sector, and the health care sector.
Loki Returned To Ripon Family
A Ripon area family that had offered a sizable reward for the return of a beloved white lab that had gone missing has him back, but not the way they had hoped. “Loki” hadn’t been seen since February 26th, posters and Facebook posts let people know about it. Monday the family reported they got him back and would be able to say their goodbyes. Foul play is not believed to be involved in the dog’s death. In a Facebook post the family thanked those involved in the search.
Qualmann Joins Envision Greater FDL
Envision Greater Fond du Lac has named Tracy Qualmann as the organization’s Director of Marketing and Communication. She is a long-time local resident of the Fond du Lac area. Before coming to Envision Greater Fond du Lac, she worked with a Public Relations and strategic communication organization in the Fox Valley. She is also involved in a number of non-profits and events through the Fond du Lac area. Qualmann says she is thrilled to be back in the community.
