Bond was set at $300,000 cash when Adrian Irby made his initial appearance in Fond du Lac County court Tuesday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 6th. Irby was arrested during a traffic stop last week during which the meth and a handgun were found in the vehicle. The street value of the methamphetamine was $148,000 making it the largest amount of meth ever seized in the city. Charges against him stem from the traffic stop and alleged drug sales last fall.

Oshkosh Armed Robbery Suspects Will Be Tried In Federal Court

Charges against two Chicago men for a pair of armed robberies in Oshkosh have been moved from Winnebago County court to federal court. Twenty-four-year-old Justin Harris and 33-year-old Robert Oneal were initially charged late last month. According to the criminal complaint the robberies on January 25th netted $700 in cash and a smartphone at one business and $538 in cash, cigarettes and liquor at another. They were arrested at a bar a few hours later and items taken from the robberies were recovered. A trial in federal court in Green Bay is scheduled for April 27th.

Catching Up With The Federal Tobacco Law

Legislation currently making its way through the state legislature would catch Wisconsin up with federal law regarding the sales of tobacco products to those under the age of 21. Last December federal law went into effect that prohibits the sale of tobacco products to those under the age of 21, but Wisconsin law only prohibits sales of those products to those under the age of 18. Fond du Lac County Tobacco Prevention and Control Coordinator Sandy Bernier says it makes for some confusion for retail sellers of those products. “This process is just so we can have the same consistency as what the federal law is and it can be enforced easily cause I think that is a benefit actually to the retail employees because there won’t be any confusion about that.” She says someone connected with the FDA doing a compliance check could cite a retail employee for selling tobacco products under the age of 21 in Wisconsin, but not local programs doing checks under Wisconsin law.

Fund Raiser In Ripon For Medical Mission Trip

An upcoming fundraiser in Ripon will benefit a medical mission trip for an orphanage and people of a Kenya village. Dr. Paul Nelson is the President of New Life Community Center. He says the village of Kisii doesn’t have running water and until a couple of years ago didn’t have electricity. He says the orphanage depends on their group. “They are totally supported by New Life Community Center and that center has a dormitory, and a facility to eat in, cook in, that type of thing.” The orphanage is boys only who have lost both their parents. The mission trip begins March 25th and returns April 8th. The fund raiser is a Taco Bar Dinner at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon on March 14th. Serving will be from 5 to 8 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 6 to 12 years of age. They will be available at the door and are available in advance at Grace Lutheran and Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Ripon.
