Flu More Likely
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller is putting a different spin on promoting getting vaccinated against the flu. She says you are more likely to get the flu that the new coronavirus COVID-19. Mueller says at this time they are seeing a lot of flu cases in Wisconsin. “There’s lots of testing happening and there’s lots of positive tests that are coming back. Sometime within this week I believe we just found out that we had this third pediatric death in Wisconsin.” Mueller notes not everyone is able to fight off the flu if they contract it, which could have serious consequences leading to hospitalization and even death if they develop complications. She says about 80 percent of the population can handle fighting off the flu on their own. She stresses even if you get the flu and you got a flu shot it should lessen the severity of your symptoms.
Stabbing Suspect Bound Over For Trial
The 36-year-old Campbellsport woman suspected of stabbing her 40-year-old boyfriend waived her preliminary hearing in Fond du Lac County court Friday. Betsy Cortinaz was then arraigned and pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the February 10th incident. The victim, a Campbellsport man, was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac with non-life threatening stab wounds. Cortinaz is being held in the County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.
Washington County Judge Appointment
Governor Evers has appointed Sandie Giernoth a Washington County Circuit Court judge. She will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Andrew Gonring that goes into effect March 28th. Giernoth is currently the Deputy District Attorney for Washington County. She has been a prosecutor since 2010. She lives with her family in West Bend and has been an active member of the community.
Hidden In Plain Sight Presentation Tonight In NFDL
Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County is hosting a “Hidden in Plain Sight” event in North Fond du Lac tonight. Prior to the presentation at Horace Mann High School there will be a resource fair from 5:30 to 6 pm with free food and refreshments. The presentation will run from 6 to 7:30 pm. It’s the first time North Fond du Lac has hosted this type of event, which teaches parents how drugs can impact their children’s lives and how to recognize signs of drug use. Within the last year, Drug Free Communities has given the presentation to four other communities throughout Fond du Lac County.
Lake Butte des Morts Habitat Restoration Projects
Two public meetings will be held next month regarding proposed habitat restoration efforts at Samers Bay and Terrell Island on Lake Butte des Morts. The first public meeting will be held Wednesday, March 11th at the Omro Town Hall in Omro. The second meeting will be Thursday, March 12th at the JP Couglin Center in Oshkosh. Both meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The main objectives of the proposed restoration efforts include creating better water quality and increasing vegetation growth to provide critical fish and wildlife habitat.
FDL Dock Spiders Giveaway Nights
The Assistant General Manager for the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders says fans will have opportunities to collect souvenirs during seven of their games during the upcoming season. Marcus Wiegert says they plan to have giveaways during those nights featuring different memorabilia each time. “But we will have a couple bobblehead dates we will have actually a t-shirt date, a hat date. Looking at the past we’ve done pint glasses, we’ve done ice cream scoops things like that. So we’re still kind of trying to secure all those things, but we do always have seven giveaway dates.” Wiegert says for those unable to attend all seven nights the have a “Souvenir 7” package which guarantees them giveaways for all seven even if they don’t attend all seven games. Wiegert says they will also have theme nights, but those won’t be announced until March or April.
