Oshkosh West School Resource Officer Michael Wissink and a student and a teacher from Oshkosh West were recognized as Hometown Heroes by the State Assembly Thursday. Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz introduced Wissink, student Duaa Ahmad and teacher Ken Levine. They were recognized for their actions last December when a student stabbed Wissink in his office at the school. Levine used a makeshift tourniquet to slow Wissink’s bleeding while Ahmad opened the door to her mosque across the street from the school to shelter students. Hintz said the three stepped up and did what was needed in the moment. Majority Leader Jim Steineke selected the three for the award.
