The Wisconsin Herd won at Grand Rapids Wednesday night, 107-103 behind Frank Mason’s 44 points. With the win, Wisconsin collects its 28th win, which is tops in the G League. The Herd now owns a 2.5-game lead over the Maine Red Claws for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. In addition, Wisconsin is 2-0 against the Drive this season with two contests remaining against Grand Rapids. Wisconsin returns home on Sunday afternoon to take on the Drive for the third time in 2020.
The Bucks return to action tonight after the All-Star break as they play the Pistons in Detroit. Milwaukee has the best record in the league at 46-8 and lead Toronto by 6.5 games in the Eastern Conference. Detroit is 19-38.
Ultilityman Brock Holt and the Milwaukee Brewers finalized a one-year contract, a deal that includes a team option for 2021. The 31-year-old left-handed batter had spent his first eight major league seasons with the Boston Red Sox and was an All-Star in 2015.
He hit a career-high .297 last year with three homers and 31 RBIs in 295 plate appearances while playing every position except pitcher, catcher and center field. Holt has a .271 career batting average and .714 OPS.
NFL owners will meet Thursday in Manhattan to discuss ongoing negotiations with the players’ association about a new collective bargaining agreement. Recent talks have brought both sides closer to a potential agreement a year before the current 10-year deal expires. Having the 32 team owners together for a previously unscheduled forum _ the next scheduled owners meeting is not until the end of March in Florida _ appears to be a sign of substantial progress. The league has proposed a 17-game regular season as part of a new contract. Other proposals include shortening the preseason to three games and increasing the number of playoff teams from each conference from six to seven.
Ryan Newman has been released from a Florida hospital two days after a frightening crash on the final lap of the Daytona 500. He had been hospitalized since Monday night. Roush Fenway Racing says the 42-year-old driver was fully alert and walking around the hospital in the hours before he left. The team posted photos with Newman and his two young daughters. Newman was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Details of his injuries have not been disclosed.
