State Supreme Court Race

State Supreme Court Justice Daniel Kelly and Dane County Circuit Court Judge Jill Karofsky have advanced to the April election by virtue of getting the most votes in the three-candidate field for a Supreme Court seat yesterday. Statewide Kelly got 50 percent of the vote or 352,860 votes. Karofsky collected 37 percent of the vote or 261,721 votes and Marquette Law School Professor Ed Fallone was eliminated from the race getting just 13 percent of vote or 89,181 votes. Locally Kelly, Karofsky and Fallone finished 1,2, and 3 in voting in Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago counties and also in the City of Ripon.

Seventh Congressional District Race Shaping Up

Republican State Senator Tom Tiffany will face Democrat Tricia Zunker in the May 12th special election to fill the seat in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District that Congressman Sean Duffy resigned from. Tiffany defeated retired Army Captain Jason Church yesterday in the Republican primary. Zunker, the president of the Wausau School Board, defeated challenger Lawrence Dale in the Democratic primary.

Voter Turnout Light

Turnout was light for yesterday’s primary election with most voters only having to vote on the State Supreme Court race. In Fond du Lac County 17 percent of registered voters or 9,467 voters cast their ballots. Just fewer than 12 percent or 1,750 voters participated in the election in Green Lake County. A little over 10,000 voters exercised their right in Dodge County though a percentage wasn’t given. In the City of Ripon 563 voters participated or 14 percent of registered voters.
