Waupun firefighters responded to a barn fire at W9551 County Road AW just after 2:30 Wednesday morning. A passer-by noticed the blaze and called 9-1-1. Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says the barn was fully engulfed and there had been significant structural damage. It took crews 7 hours to put out the fire. A large number of round bales also had to be put out. The State of Wisconsin owns the barn and it was primarily used for storage of equipment and goods used for raising dairy animals. Forty-five cows were in a different building on the property and were not harmed during the fire. The barn was a complete loss. No one was hurt putting out the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but is not considered suspicious at this time. The Waupun Fire Department got help from 11 other fire departments, the Dodge County Sheriff’s and Highway Department, Lifestar Ambulance and Waupun Department of Public Works.
