Coronavirus Makes Its Way To The U.S.
Health officials in the U.S. are keeping an eye out as China’s new Coronavirus makes its way to our shores. The first case was reported in Washington State Wednesday, a man who had traveled from China. Also yesterday the death toll in China from the Coronavirus had risen to 17 with 540 confirmed cases. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says it can be transmitted through human transmission. “There’s a number of cases that they are dealing with and they just confirmed that there is human transmission so there is definitely that potential that it could come here.” Mueller says the symptoms are similar to the common cold including fever, cough, and respiratory difficulty. She says depending on a person’s health those factors could lead to pneumonia, kidney failure, and in extreme cases death.
Waupaca County Drug Investigations
Two drug investigations in Waupaca County culminated with the execution of search warrants last week and the arrest of six Waupaca residents. As a result of the arrests 39-year-old Adam Delfosse, 21-year-old Alyssa Schuelke, 60-year-old Lawrence Laven, 55-year-old Paul Samolyk, 42-year-old Kevin Ransom, and 62-year-old Keenan Morgan are facing charges. All six are facing some type of possession charge. Drugs involved included methamphetamine, marijuana, fentanyl, and cocaine. Sheriff’s officials say an ongoing investigation began last month involving Ransom, Morgan, and Delfosse who were suspected of selling methamphetamine.
Forty Wisconsin Restaurants Violated Child Labor Laws
The U.S. Labor Department has fined a company that owns 40 Wendy’s and Fazoli’s restaurants in Wisconsin over $157,000 for violating child labor laws. The Louisville, Kentucky-based Manna Incorporated violated the law by having 14 and 15-year-old employees work more hours than they were supposed to. Among the 40 restaurants Manna owns in Wisconsin is a Wendy’s in Beaver and Fazoli’s restaurants in Fond du Lac and Appleton where there were violations. The company owns 99 restaurants in 9 states. The investigation found 446 minors worked outside of legally approved hours and for more hours than allowed by law.

Suspicious Package Contained Car Battery Charger
It turns out the suspicious package found outside a Social Security Administration Building in Sheboygan Tuesday morning contained a car battery charger. Because police considered the package suspicious in nature and placement a perimeter was set up around the building and adjacent roads closed down. The Milwaukee bomb squad was called and they determined it wasn’t dangerous. Police say the package contained a car battery charger inside a black plastic trash bag. There was also a note, but nothing threatening.
Grothman On Impeachment Chances
Congressman Glenn Grothman believes Republican colleagues in the U.S. Senate will vote to acquit President Trump during an impeachment trial. He doesn’t believe enough Republicans will break ranks to vote President Trump out of office. “They are not going to get enough votes to remove President Trump. There may be 2 or 3 Republicans who vote that way, I hope not.” The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says there are some Republicans who don’t like Trump out of personal jealously or because he accomplished things there were not able to. Republicans hold the majority in the Senate 53 to 47.
Explorer Post Honor FDL Police Officer Killed In The Line Of Duty
The Kenosha Police Explorer Post has honored the memory of a Fond du Lac Police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty, by changing their name. Craig Birkholz was a Kenosha native. Birholz was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence incident on March 20th, 2011. Kenosha Police Explorer Post 509 is now known as Kenosha Police Public Safety Cadet Unit 67. As a Fond du Lac Police Officer Craig Birkholz wore badge #67. He had also been a member of that Kenosha Explorer’s Post. The name change also came as part of a structural change for the organization. Birkholz was 28-years-old when he was killed.
Literacy Tutors Needed
Fond du Lac Literacy Services needs tutors to serve the 20 adults on a waiting list who are seeking help. Two tutor training sessions will be held in Fond du Lac next month at the Public Library. They will be from 10 am to Noon on Wednesday, February 19th and 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, February 26th in the lower level of the library in Mid States Room. It’s estimated that 8 percent or 6,000 adults in Fond du Lac County read below the sixth-grade level. To sign up for training sessions or learn more call 920-322-3932.
