Oshkosh Teen Bound Over For Trial On Attempted Homicide Charge

The Oshkosh teen accused of trying to kill an Oshkosh West School Resource Officer has been bound over for trial. Seventeen-year-old Grant Fuhrman waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Winnebago County court Thursday. He will be arraigned on February 19th. Fuhrman allegedly used a barbecue fork to stab Officer Michael Wissink several times in the neck in Wissink’s office at the school on December 3rd. According to the criminal complaint he thought Wissink would pass out or bleed out within seconds. But Wissink fired his gun three times as Fuhrman tried to wrestle it away from him. Fuhrman was struck once and Wissink shot himself in the arm. Afterwards both were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Oshkosh School Board Delays Referendum

The Oshkosh Area School District won’t be placing a referendum before voters in April, but look for one in November instead. The School Board last night voted to postpone the resolution that would have authorized a $24 million referendum in April, indefinitely. Instead the board will consider a referendum in November that would include projects identified in phase one of the Facility Advisory Committee’s recommendations and in a community survey. That plan included infrastructure and maintenance, safety and security, building a middle school, and building or updating an existing elementary school.

Former BD Woman Sentenced For Hiding Murder Suspect

A former Beaver Dam woman who allegedly hid a Dodge County murder suspect in her apartment has been sentenced to two years in prison and five years of extended supervision. Thirty-three-year-old Rebecca Wolc of Mayville was sentenced in Dodge County court Thursday. Last September she pleaded no contest to a harboring or aiding a Felon charge.  She watched as Nigel Schultz shot 36-year-old Bradlee Gerke to death. Gerke’s body was found in a shallow grave in a cow pasture off Redwing Road in the Town of Lebanon on Halloween of 2018. Earlier this month Schultz was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Oshkosh Woman Facing Charges For Chase In Dodge County

A 36-year-old Oshkosh woman is facing charges for speeding away from a Dodge County Sheriff’s deputy that pulled her over on a traffic stop. Amanda Dwyer is facing eluding, obstruction, and drug-related charges stemming from the incident on Highway 151 Wednesday morning. A deputy saw her speeding and she tossed a cigarette out of her window. The deputy ran her vehicle registration and learned it was expired. When she was stopped she appeared to be under the influence and refused to get out of her vehicle, eventually she sped off. She was arrested during a subsequent high-risk traffic stop. Dwyer made her initial court appearance Wednesday and was released on a signature bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 20th.

Questions About Ripon Bridges

Ripon Common Council Alderman John Splitt asked the City Council for an update this week on the Tygert Street Bridge and State Street Bridge, but will have to wait longer for answers. Splitt would like to see the city recheck the engineering reports for the Tygert Street Bridge, which is closed. Those reports were put together 2 ½ years ago. Meanwhile a guard rail for the State Street Bridge over Crystal Creek needs to be replaced. Splitt says they have to find money to replace it. Traffic on that bridge is limited to one lane.

Democratic Spokesman Criticizes Trump’s Milwaukee Rally Comments

A spokesman for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin says President Trump didn’t have much substance in his remarks during a campaign rally in Milwaukee this week. Philip Shulman says during his 2016 Presidential campaign in the state Donald Trump talked about how Prescription drug prices would be coming down and didn’t focus on trivial things like light bulb efficiency and low flush toilets. He says meanwhile Democrats are trying to do something. “And what we’ve seen is House Democrats have passed H.R. 3 which would allow Medicare to negotiate up to 250 drug prices. There is a bi-partisan bill that’s sitting in Mitch McConnell’s graveyard that would similarly help lower prescription drug costs, but you know the President won’t lift a finger on this.” He says the same night as Trump’s campaign rally in Milwaukee Democratic Presidential candidates during a National debate talked about the health care crisis and climate change, and how to help American families.

Dickens Parade Returning For A Second Year

There will be a second holiday parade during Dickens of a Christmas this December. That’s the word from Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith. “We will have a second Dickens of a Christmas Parade. We’re going to meet coming up on last Tuesday of this month, reviewing and start discussing 2020 Dickens of a Christmas already.” It will be the 30th year for Dickens of a Christmas. Mansmith says every five years they return to the Dickens theme of “A Christmas Carol” and that will be the case this year. Another keystone event for the Chamber is Cookie Daze, which will celebrate its 25th year this summer.
