Missing New Holstein Man Found Safe

A statewide Silver Alert for an 84-year-old New Holstein man has been cancelled. The state’s Department of Justice says Patrick Sepnieski was found safe early this morning. He was reported missing late last night. At that point he hadn’t been seen since 10 am Monday morning.  The DOJ released photos of him and the vehicle he drives and a physical description during the alert.

Ripon Common Council Preview

The Ripon Common Council tonight will discuss the need for a Columbarium to be located in one of the city’s cemeteries. The Public Works Committee discussed the need at their meeting Thursday. A Columbarium is an above ground structure with small spaces for placing cremated remains in urns. They are made of solid granite. At this point cremation is chosen by 54 percent of residents or their families as part of their final wishes. That option is expected to increase. The Council will also discuss the Tygert Street Bridge and a guard rail on State Street. The meeting is at 7 pm at the Ripon City Hall.

Gathering For Ripon Employee’s Retirement

Prior to tonight’s Ripon Common Council meeting there will be a gathering at City Hall to celebrate the recent retirement of Barb Mashack. In November the Common Council passed a resolution honoring her for her 41 years of service to the City. She began working for the City on December 1st of 1978. The retirement/farewell party will feature cake with a small gathering at 6:30 pm

FDL County Board Meeting Cancelled

The Fond du Lac County Board meeting scheduled for next Tuesday has been cancelled. County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says there was insufficient business to justify a meeting. A majority of the county supervisors signed a petition to have the meeting cancelled. The Board’s next regularly scheduled meeting is Tuesday, February 11th at 6 pm at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.

Drive Sober Deterrent

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt believes campaigns like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” do act as a deterrent to drunk or impaired driving. He says it’s hard to say whether the 20 people they arrested for OWI from December 13th through New Year’s Day could have put other drivers or pedestrians at risk. “You don’t know that if you wouldn’t have stopped them they may very well have gone down the road crossed the center line had a crash hurt or killed somebody else hurt or killed themselves or their passengers and there is no way to predict what those 20 people we got off our highways what might have happened to them if they weren’t caught.” Waldschmidt believes with all the advertising and media attention “Drive Sober” campaigns get it makes people think twice and they consider finding alternative ways to get home safely.

Congressman Grothman On Trump Milwaukee Rally

Congressman Glenn Grothman says there was a time when President Trump’s campaign officials wouldn’t have booked a venue like the UW-Milwaukee Panther’s Arena for a campaign rally. But he says enthusiasm for President Trump is growing. “I’m not sure exactly how many people will show up there, but I don’t think that is something President Trump would have done a year ago because I don’t think they would have been confident that they could fill up what I guess is referred to now as what do they call it the U.S. Cellular Arena or UW-Panther Arena.” The 7 pm rally tonight is scheduled the same night as top Democratic candidates for President hold a prime-time debate in Des Moines, Iowa.

Consumer Top Ten List Of Resolutions

The Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin put a list together at the beginning of the New Year of the top resolutions for consumers. Susan Bach of the BBB says at the top of the list is implementing a credit freeze. “It’s the best way of protecting yourself from financial identity theft because it restricts access to your credit file and it makes it impossible for identity thieves to apply for new line of credit in your name.” Other top suggestions included; using technology to block robocalls, reviewing your permissions and privacy settings on social media, using secure payment methods, checking out businesses and charities first, and filing your taxes early. The complete list is available at the Better Business Bureau website.
